Global Authority on Technology in Education Cites Rave Wireless for Being at Forefront of Emerging Higher Education Mobile Technology

-- Rave Wireless, Inc. (www.ravewireless.com), the leading provider of campus-specific mobile applications and managed services, was singled out for its delivery of a wide range of campus-based mobile services at Montclair State University History
Montclair State was established in 1908 as "Montclair Normal School" in response to a growing need for teachers. It was renamed "Montclair State Teachers College" in 1927, when it developed a program of educating secondary school teachers through a Bachelor of Arts
in the 2007 Horizon Report, the Company announced today. The annual Horizon Report is produced by an elite, global team of higher education technology visionaries who evaluate and pinpoint the top six technologies due to influence college campuses, with an approximate timeframe for "major impact." Rave Wireless and Apple (for the iPhone) are the only vendors listed as references in the mobile phone section of the Report, which is issued through a joint effort between the New Media Consortium (NMC NMC Nursing & Midwifery Council (UK)
NMC NSSDC Master Catalog (NASA)
NMC Northwestern Michigan College (Traverse City, Michigan)
NMC National Meteorological Center

The 2007 Horizon Report (http://www.nmc.org/horizon/) listed mobile phones third, with expectations that this technology will have a "major impact" on teaching and learning in higher education in 2-3 years, right behind user-generated content and social networking which will realize their full potential within the next year.

Other key findings of the Report's mobile phone section include:

* Cell phones are a learning tool. The academic community is accepting of cell phones' broader role in higher education.

* Mobile applications bridge the digital divide. The Report states that mobile phones' ability to access email, instant messaging, the Web, and calendaring increases the ways in which students and instructors can communicate.

* Mobile phones can help colleges and universities serve campus needs. A Rave Wireless customer, Montclair State University, is the Report's primary example of how mobile phones are already delivering campus services via GPS and web-enabled phones that utilize Rave for academic, social, safety and wellness, transportation, utility and administrative services.

* Mobile phones may replace landlines. The Report notes that some schools are looking at mobile phones to replace landlines. Some schools are already looking to Rave Wireless's Mobile Phone Program, its service that provides universal mobile phone devices and plans to a campus community, with an eye towards replacing landlines in the future.

"The advisory board of higher education technology experts that compiles the Horizon Report reviews over 100 technologies before determining the six that are having the greatest impact on teaching and learning at colleges and universities," said Larry Johnson, publisher, New Media Consortium. "It's unusual for the Report to cite specific vendors, but the work Rave Wireless is doing to pioneer and define the usage of mobile technologies on campus is particularly innovative and therefore achieved recognition in our 2007 Report."

The creativity and breadth of the mobile solutions used by Rave Wireless's early adopter clients are as varied as the campuses themselves. Some examples of current college and university uses of Rave Wireless include:

* SAFETY; Montclair State University, in addition to offering a full suite of academic, community and convenience applications on the mobile phone, received an award from Security on Campus, a nonprofit organization Nonprofit Organization

dedicated to increased safety on campus, for its use of Rave Guardian. Rave Guardian transforms students' GPS enabled phones into personal safety devices that are monitored by campus police, on an opt-in basis.

* COMMUNITY: The University of South Florida's Intramural Sports Department has strengthened the connection it builds with and for students, and is achieving huge efficiencies by using Rave to automate and mobilize the management of its intramural intramural /in·tra·mu·ral/ (-mu´r'l) within the wall of an organ.

By using Rave's technology to serve more than 10,000 participants from a student body of nearly 44,000, the Department has reduced their landline expenses, eliminated the need to add more staff to run the program and is getting more students involved through the free agent groups set up for each sport.

* ACADEMICS: At Georgia Gwinnett College Georgia Gwinnett College, named for its location in Gwinnett County, Georgia, is a state-supported liberal arts college, the newest component of the University System of Georgia. The first freshman class walked through the doors on August 20th, 2007. , a new institution that's being built as the "Campus of Tomorrow," Rave applications and programs will be used for immediate responses to surveys or quizzes in the classroom, students will have access to class records and the ability to pay certain fees through their mobile phones, and its "classroom capture" system will provide streaming sessions of class lectures, with the ability for students to "tag" segments right from their mobile phones.

* STUDENT RETENTION: Allen University in South Carolina recently noted that the Allen Campus Phone program - which issued a Rave-enabled phone to every student at this Historically Black University to help attract and retain students - led to the doubling of pre-registration for the spring 2007 semester.

* SOCIAL: At the University of Maryland Eastern Shore University of Maryland Eastern Shore, located on 776 acres (2.5 km²) in Princess Anne, Maryland, is part of the University System of Maryland.
