New 17-inch Mini-Neck Monitor Proves That "Less is More".SAUSALITO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 7, 1997--Nokia Display Products, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-quality display and audio technologies, today announced the availability of the 447Za, the newest star in Nokia's popular, 17-inch Multigraph(TM) series. Sporting a new design and improved integrated sound, the 17-inch Multigraph 447Za (actual viewing area of 16"), is a blend of state-of-the-art technology, multimedia features and emissions that meet the TCO'95 standard for safe use in the office or home. New cabinet styling minimizes monitor footprint and saves desk space, yet the 447Za provides the largest viewing area (16 inches) of any 17-inch Nokia monitor. The mini-neck flatscreen picture tube ensures improved focus, lower energy consumption and less heat development, fulfilling the highest ergonomic requirements. Once again, Nokia extends its tradition of assuming a product leadership role by developing a monitor that is capable of outlasting several generations of computing power. One of the most important features of the new 447Za is the impressive reduction in power consumption. "Typically, most 17-inch monitors use about 140 watts," explained Jan Nylund, Product Manager for Nokia Display Products, "and the new 447Za only uses 70% of that, or less than 100 watts." Another important aspect of this reduction in power usage is the reduced need for cooling the air. "Most of the energy used by a monitor is dissipated as heat," said Nylund. "When a monitor produces less heat, it requires less energy to cool the surrounding air." Thus, the power reduction is translated into dollar-savings -- particularly for a large company with many computer workstations -- where energy costs can be reduced significantly. With a screen refresh screen refresh - refresh rate rate of 90 Hz, the Multigraph 447Za offers an optimal resolution of 1024 x 768. It is capable of a maximum refresh rate The number of times per second that a device, such as a display screen or DRAM chip, is re-energized. See vertical scan frequency and dynamic RAM.
