New "Black pope" for 2008.


Vatican City--Father Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, Superior General of the Jesuits since 1983, has announced his intention, "with the consent of His Holiness a title of the pope; - formerly given also to Greek bishops and Greek emperors.

Father Kolvenbach has convoked a General Congregation The highest authority in the Society of Jesus is the General Congregation, an assembly of the Jesuit representatives from all parts of the world. A general congregation is always summoned on the death or resignation of the administrative head of the order—called the Superior  of the Society to elect a successor and "discuss other important matters" for January 5, 2008. There are 91 Jesuit provinces throughout the world which will each hold a preparatory congregation to begin by March 1, 2007.
