A general congregation is always summoned on the death or resignation of the administrative head of the order—called the Superior of the Society to elect a successor and "discuss other important matters" for January 5, 2008. There are 91 Jesuit provinces throughout the world which will each hold a preparatory congregation to begin by March 1, 2007.
