Two new developments in pressure sensors that make it easier to network large numbers of devices were introduced at NPE last month by Dynisco LLC in Franklin, Mass. Dynisco also brought out a family of pressure and process indicators that provide more speed in a smaller, less expensive package.

The new SPX Series of HART extrusion melt-pressure transmitters is aimed primarily at the melt-processing stages of resin production. These are remotely addressable, digital versions of standard and oil-filled 4-20mA melt-pressure transmitters. HART stands for "highway-addressable remote transmitter." It signifies that handheld computers or remote computer-control stations can access these sensors. Functions such as changing transmitter set-up, modifying process parameters, and re-ranging (changing span) can be performed remotely without interrupting the sensor signal. Dynisco claims to be the first to offer the HART protocol in a melt-pressure transmitter.

Dynisco also has come out with "busenabled" versions of standard melt- and hydraulic-pressure transducers (photo). These digital sensors reduce installation costs through simplified wiring and cut maintenance costs by providing diagnostic information. Users can add, remove, or change a sensor without disturbing the other sensors linked to the bus. They are available for CANopen and DeviceNet, protocols.

Meanwhile, Dynisco introduced the 2290 series of pressure and process indicators with multiple alarms, easier set-up, and linear analog outputs.
