, Calif., has brought out its NetIQ[R] Security Compliance Suite in both Standard and Enterprise editions. This new product offering is another leg in NetIQ's strategy, Knowledge-Based Service Assurance, which provides customers "with the knowledge that their enterprise is secure, available, performing optimally and also compliant with legal and corporate policies," the company says.

"IT managers are searching for solutions that deliver knowledge to assist them in breaking down general regulations into specific checks, reports and remediation," said Matt Dircks, senior vice president of Systems and Security Management Products at NetIQ, in an announcement. "There is a general lack of clarity and alignment between business owners and the IT organization."

NetIQ's Standard edition of the Security Compliance Suite is made up of NetIQ Vulnerability Manager[TM] and the Log Manager module of NetIQ Security Manager[TM]. It includes the following functionality for Windows environments (1) (upper case "W") Refers to computers running under a Microsoft Windows operating system.

(2) (lower case "w") Also called a "windowing environment," it refers to any software that provides multiple windows on screen such as Windows, Mac, Motif and X Window.

* Log Management: Collects, consolidates and analyzes all audit logs in one easy-to-use interface.

* Policy Compliance: Quickly and regularly assesses all systems' configurations for compliance with policy. Built-in templates are available to help customers assess and report compliance against multiple regulations, including Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996, Public Law 104-191) Also known as the "Kennedy-Kassebaum Act," this U.S. law protects employees' health insurance coverage when they change or lose their jobs (Title I) and provides standards for patient health, , GLBA GLBA Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 (Financial Modernization Act of 1999)

* Configuration and Vulnerability Assessment A Department of Defense, command, or unit-level evaluation (assessment) to determine the vulnerability of a terrorist attack against an installation, unit, exercise, port, ship, residence, facility, or other site. : Assures that systems are up to date with the latest security patches and are not vulnerable or exploited by the latest malicious code.

The Enterprise edition includes the functionality of the Standard edition, and also provides real-time security monitoring through the Incident Manager module of NetIQ Security Manager. The Enterprise edition enables monitoring and alerting on policy changes, user account changes and suspicious network activity.

NetIQ Security Compliance Suite is being sold in sets of 25 server licenses. The Standard Edition is priced at $800 per server; the Enterprise Edition is priced at $1,120 per server.
