Network Failure 40% down in Summer

Network failures and bandwidth problems are reduced by almost 40% over July and August.

Network specialist, Vanco, analysed 1500 sites over the past 12 months across all sectors and compared performance from month to month. It found that with users away on holiday, networks run more consistently as traffic demands decrease. By September, however, the incidence of problems, such as network failure, increases by 23% above the norm. This is for a number of reasons, including users powering down equipment over a long period of time, connection failure and the knock-on effects of temporary IT cover.

Next-Generation Mobile Telecomms Test Solution

Siemens' Information and Communication mobile division is to partner Tektronix to develop a customised Core Network (CN) test and simulation solution for a UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) The GSM implementation of the 3G wireless phone system. Part of IMT-2000, UMTS provides service in the 2 GHz band and offers global roaming and personalized features.  based network (Universal Mobile Telecommunication Systems). Siemens will use Tektronix' K1297 protocol tester to verify the correct operation of components, enabling faster system integration with UMTS networks Beginning in 2003 under the name 3, Hutchison Whampoa, a large port operator, has gradually launched their startup UMTS networks worldwide including Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland and Sweden. .

The partnership covers the development of UMTS test software for the IU interface integrated with the new Tektronix K1297 G20 software platform, creating a customised test solution enabling Siemens to develop the Core Nework components of a UMTS-based network. These test modules cover the functional testing of signalling protocols such as RANAP RANAP Radio Access Network Application Protocol (3GPP)

After hatching from the egg, the tadpole, sometimes called a polliwog, is gill-breathing and legless and propels itself by means of a tail.  Technology plc have an agreement aimed at combining the companies' respective technologies to deliver a powerful GIS/mobile computing solution. The solution, which is scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2000, will benefit users in electric, gas, telecommunications, and water utility markets.

Integration will take place with ESRI's Arcinfo 8 professional GIS software and Tadpole's Conic mobile GIS software. The end result of the largest research and development effort in the history of the GIS industry, the Arcinfo 8 system sets the new standard for applying geographic knowledge and supporting spatial decision making. From departmental GIS to large spatial enterprises, Arcinfo 8 is the scalable solution that provides a complete, integrated platform for creating, managing, and disseminating geographic information. Conic, an object-oriented field data capture software package. Divided into four levels of functionality, Conic consists of Conic Mapbook, which provides field map viewing and navigation; Conic Redline, which provides redlining Identifying text that has been changed in a word processing document by displaying it in a special color, for example. It allows the original author of the text or other users to see ongoing revisions.
