Network Appliance marks 750th NetApp iSCSI deployment.

Network Appliance (1) A specialized device for use on a network. For example, Web servers, cache servers and file servers can be implemented as general-purpose computers with the appropriate software or as network appliances, which are computers dedicated to a single function and cannot do anything , Inc., has announced another iSCSI milestone--the achievement of 750 iSCSI customer deployments in IP SAN (storage area network) configurations. NetApp IP SAN solutions are an excellent choice for companies seeking to consolidate storage and server resources, maximize existing IT investments and headcount, and reduce complexity in the data center.

technology in its efforts to improve management, increase availability, and provide its research teams with continuous uptime and access to business-critical applications and data.

For the past 25 years, SCR has been a source of innovation, particularly in the fields of information technology and software, computer graphics, and advanced multimedia. SCR uses IBM Rational ClearCase Rational ClearCase is a software tool for revision control (configuration management, SCM etc) of source code and other software development assets. Within just 12 months its ClearCase storage tripled, making storage provisioning and management increasingly complicated and time-consuming. The adoption of NetApp storage and iSCSI solved these problems for SCR, enabling the research institute to consolidate data and reduce the time ClearCase is offline for backups from hours to a few minutes. In addition, the NetApp IP SAN solution based on iSCSI simplified overall management, enabling the IT team to control administration costs despite the rapid growth.

"Throughout the years the NetApp storage solutions have kept up with our explosive data growth and provided reliable 24x7 access to our global teams with minimal added expenses, resources, or complexity," said Ramesh Viswanathan, director of Computer and Network Administration with Siemens Corporate Research. "NetApp IP SAN solutions have simplified and lowered the overall cost of our storage management. Simply put, the flexibility and cost savings are critical as we continue expanding our business."

"At a strategic level, IP SAN customer deployments are an important element of NetApp success today. We continue to see NetApp IP SAN solutions being deployed to optimize optimize - optimisation  existing storage environments and to support multiple applications," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Marketing at Network Appliance. "IP SAN is a key differentiator within our extensive portfolio of SAN offering."
