Netsky's number one spot shows users still not protecting their machines.


SoftScan, Scandinavia's managed email security service, announced today that February's statistics shows that email messages containing viruses account for .6% of total email traffic, with Netsky in top place, and that spam is marginally down from last month's 87.09% to 85.6%, but still high enough to be a serious productivity issue for most companies. The top five virus families in February are:</p> <pre> 1. Netsky

 traffic. In the UK alone, SoftScan has identified that there are at least seven times as many unique IP addresses that distribute emails infected with Netsky than Mytob and four times as many than Bagle

 the tactic of staying under the anti-virus vendors' radar, which has no doubt contributed to its longevity in the top five. However, more worryingly is that its apparent staying power is probably due to unprotected computers. Compared to other viruses the number of Netsky infected machines are remarkably high considering the last outbreak was in 2004.
