Internet Printing and Active Directory Integration

Increases Flexibility and Control for Administrators

Netreon(TM), Inc., a provider of enterprise integration software for networked devices, announced today that Netreon and Minolta Co., Ltd. will extend their joint development activities by including two new components of Netreon's DirectoryPlus(TM) Print product line into Minolta's printers and multifunction imaging devices. The two companies will add support for the latest version of Active Directory(TM), the integrated directory service for Microsoft Windows See Windows.

Initially conceived by Novell, Xerox and others, the IETF made it a standard in 2000 that includes authentication and encryption. "Netreon and Minolta agree on the need to leverage the network in order to provide more value to printer and multifunction imaging devices," said Yoshisuke Takekida, Director of Minolta Co., Ltd. "With the benefit of these new technologies, our customers will be able to enjoy more services and have more control than ever before."

By including access to Microsoft's Active Directory, Minolta's printers and multifunction devices can register themselves in the popular network directory service. This registration helps the administrator manage the device by capturing status and downloading policies and configuration data from the same interface they use to manage other devices on the network. Users will be able to find the device and learn its capabilities more easily through browsing the directory. Without this capability, end users generally have to involve their system administrator in order to discover and use a new printer on the network.

By using IPP Fax, a user at an IPP Fax sending device -- a workstation, a networked scanner or an MFP (MultiFunction Printer, MultiFunction Peripheral) See all-in-one and MFD.  type scanner/printer -- can send a print job to any IPP Fax-capable device over the Internet, thereby eliminating the expense of a phone call. In addition, the IPP Fax receiving device will be able to produce hardcopy at any supported quality, such as a full-color, high-resolution document. IPP Fax support, integrated with Directory Services, secures printers and other IPP enabled devices from network interlopers INTERLOPERS. "Netreon is proud to have Minolta as our first customer to integrate Active Directory and IPP Fax support in their printers and multifunction imaging devices," said Adam Au, general manager of Netreon, Inc. "Their customers will be able to simplify the installation and management of Minolta's printers and multifunction imaging devices by allowing them to quickly integrate the devices on their network and into their directory services."
