Netrake and SS8 Networks Partner to Deliver Interoperable, Carrier-Class CALEA Solution for VoIP Networks.

CHICAGO -- Integrated solution provides best-in-class support of security requirements

Netrake, the premier provider of session controllers interconnecting global VoIP networks, today announced that it is partnering with SS8 Networks, the leading developer of signaling and enhanced solutions for the telecommunications industry. Together, the two companies are delivering a cost-effective solution that enables Tier 1 carriers and other leading service providers to overcome some common difficulties associated with meeting Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act The Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) is a United States wiretapping law passed in 1994 (Pub. L. No. 103-414, 108 Stat. 4279). In its own words, the purpose of CALEA is:

(CALEA CALEA Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (Fairfax, Virginia)
CALEA Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act of 1994
CALEA Communication Assistance to Low Enforcement Act
) regulatory requirements. This combined solution allows service providers to enhance the security of communications networks and applications and to meet legal and governmental obligations on a global scale.

Federal agencies want access to VoIP networks that is as routine as what they now have with traditional wireline services, however, technical issues related to the replication of signaling and media streams of subjects under surveillance have created barriers to CALEA's actual implementation in VoIP networks. With the advent of residential VoIP offerings and emphasis of security measures Noun 1. security measures - measures taken as a precaution against theft or espionage or sabotage etc.; "military security has been stepped up since the recent uprising"

This may be a local or state police, federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). , CALEA adherence has become a more immediate concern for service providers and their vendors.

Netrake's nCite session controllers solve the technical problems associated with CALEA by delivering the critical intercept access points in the network with real-time replication of media and/or signaling flows. To provide a complete lawful intercept package, Netrake's nCite works seamlessly with the leading lawful intercept supplier, SS8 Networks. SS8 provides the administration and the delivery function while Netrake provides the access function. Together, the two companies offer the most robust solution on the market today. Both product lines follow the detailed PacketCable Electronic Surveillance Specification and deliver a complete solution for carriers that need to comply with CALEA requirements.

"Our standards-based Xcipio(TM) security products are designed for ease of deployment and maintenance, providing carriers with a more cost-effective CALEA solution compared with other proprietary offerings," said Paul Tinney, vice president and general manager of the Security Solutions Group at SS8 Networks. "In combination with Netrake's high performance session controllers, we can now optimize security operations giving service providers peace of mind, while they manage and grow their revenue-based enterprises."

Netrake's nCite session controllers support both carrier-to-carrier peering and residential VoIP services on the same platform. Netrake's session controllers are the only ones built from the ground up to support superior carrier-class scalability, security, redundancy and network management capabilities - in a single box solution. One Netrake session controller chassis can scale to manage from 1,000 to 42,000 simultaneous calls at call processing In telecommunication, the term call processing has the following meanings:
