Netrake Unveils 3GX(TM) for Converged Fixed and Mobile Networks; Netrake Secures UMA, CDMA, and IMS Traffic in a Single System, Scales to 1,000 Tunnels Per Second.

PLANO, Texas -- Netrake today unveiled its next-generation platform - the 3GX(TM) - the first complete solution addressing dynamic security of voice, video, data, and mobile applications to secure multimedia distribution across a range of access networks for users at work, at home, or on the road. The 3GX supports next-generation, converged fixed-mobile architectures being defined by 3GPP IMS, 3GPP2, ETSI TISPAN, PacketCable and UMA.

As the next generation in the Netrake product family, the 3GX builds on the proven nCite Session Border Controller (SBC) and nCite Security Gateway (SG) platforms and integrates them while adding new functionality and interfaces required to operate in both Fixed and Mobile networks. Netrake has developed unique networking hardware and software technology that solves the security and service problems with voice, video and data distribution over FMC networks.

"Service providers are beginning to upgrade their core network security posture in advance of the industry shift to Dual-Mode 3G/UMA networks, and eventually to full convergence based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture," said Mark Neider, vice president marketing for Netrake. In moving toward the IMS architecture, service providers will need to support a range of protocols. By converging Netrake's technology expertise in SBC and SG into the new 3GX platform, service providers will realize economies of scale. This becomes an advantage for carriers as they locate the security device at the very edge of the network to provide a single point of access to the core network.

The use of dual-mode phones using IPSec encryption in both Fixed and Mobile networks will require a single access point to aggregate the large volumes of secure tunnels into the service provider's network. Security devices at the network edge must handle IPSec encryption of both the signaling and the media traffic as well as perform Dynamic Session Security and other security countermeasures for roaming users and applications.

The 3GX addresses security issues with a carrier-grade, services edge solution, available in a range of configurations, including a next generation ATCA platform that meets the diverse evolution paths of service providers today. The 3GX resides at the edge of the providers' IP network, bridging the divide between network convergence and service convergence providing a huge step forward in security and real-time management of users. The 3GX allows service providers to manage a single secure connection to the subscriber that is capable of concurrently supporting all IP services such as VoIP, IPTV, and data services. Netrake's 3GX supports multiple packaging options that will allow service providers to scale existing deployments with a graceful evolution to the IMS architecture.
