Netrake Unveils 3GX(TM) for Converged Fixed and Mobile Networks; Netrake Secures UMA, CDMA, and IMS Traffic in a Single System, Scales to 1,000 Tunnels Per Second.

PLANO, Texas -- Netrake today unveiled its next-generation platform - the 3GX(TM) - the first complete solution addressing dynamic security of voice, video, data, and mobile applications to secure multimedia distribution across a range of access networks for users at work, at home, or on the road. The 3GX supports next-generation, converged fixed-mobile architectures being defined by 3GPP IMS (1) See IP Multimedia Subsystem.

(2) (Information Management System) An early IBM hierarchical DBMS for IBM mainframes. IMS was widely implemented throughout the 1970s under MVS and continues to be used under z/OS.
, 3GPP2, ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute, Sophia Antipolis technical park, Nice, France, www.etsi.org) A non-profit membership organization founded in 1988, dedicated to standardizing information and communication technologies (ICT) throughout Europe.  TISPAN TISPAN TIPHON (Telecommunications and Internet Protocol Harmonization over Networks) and SPAN (Services and Protocols for Advanced Networks) (ETSI) , PacketCable and UMA.

As the next generation in the Netrake product family, the 3GX builds on the proven nCite Session Border Controller A Session Border Controller is a device used in some VoIP networks to exert control over the signaling and usually also the media streams involved in setting up, conducting, and tearing down calls.  (SBC) and nCite Security Gateway (SG) platforms and integrates them while adding new functionality and interfaces required to operate in both Fixed and Mobile networks. Netrake has developed unique networking hardware and software technology that solves the security and service problems with voice, video and data distribution over FMC See fixed mobile convergence.  networks.

"Service providers are beginning to upgrade their core network security posture in advance of the industry shift to Dual-Mode 3G/UMA networks, and eventually to full convergence based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem An integrated network for telecommunications carriers that uses the IP protocol as its foundation for packetized voice, video and data. Supporting voice over IP (VoIP) in all its flavors (SIP, H.323, MGCP, etc.  (IMS) architecture," said Mark Neider, vice president marketing for Netrake. "Adding unlicensed wireless network access exposes the network to threats such as Denial of Service A condition in which a system can no longer respond to normal requests. See denial of service attack. , fraud, and spoofing, and 3GX is designed to eliminate those risks.

In moving toward the IMS architecture, service providers will need to support a range of protocols. By converging Netrake's technology expertise in SBC and SG into the new 3GX platform, service providers will realize economies of scale. This becomes an advantage for carriers as they locate the security device at the very edge of the network to provide a single point of access to the core network.

The use of dual-mode phones using IPSec encryption in both Fixed and Mobile networks will require a single access point to aggregate the large volumes of secure tunnels into the service provider's network. Security devices at the network edge must handle IPSec encryption of both the signaling and the media traffic as well as perform Dynamic Session Security and other security countermeasures for roaming users and applications.

The 3GX addresses security issues with a carrier-grade, services edge solution, available in a range of configurations, including a next generation ATCA See AdvancedTCA.  platform that meets the diverse evolution paths of service providers today. The 3GX resides at the edge of the providers' IP network, bridging the divide between network convergence and service convergence providing a huge step forward in security and real-time management of users. The 3GX allows service providers to manage a single secure connection to the subscriber that is capable of concurrently supporting all IP services such as VoIP, IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) Also called "TV over IP," IPTV delivers scheduled TV programs and video-on-demand (VOD) via the IP protocol and digital streaming techniques used to watch video on the Internet. , and data services. Netrake's 3GX supports multiple packaging options that will allow service providers to scale existing deployments with a graceful evolution to the IMS architecture.

Within the 3GPP IMS and ETSI TISPAN architectures, Netrake converges the Packet Data Gateway (PDG), P-CSCF P-CSCF Proxy Call Session Control Function , and the BGF (Border Gateway function) into a single platform to provide operational efficiencies including:

--Reduction in service entry points

--Ease of subscriber management

--Ability to offload process-intensive tasks from the core network infrastructure to enable service scalability and increase network security.

Netrake's new solution for Fixed and Mobile service providers allows subscribers the ability to communicate seamlessly between mobile and broadband networks and delivers the following features:

--Support for UMA, CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. , and SIP on a Single Platform

--Air-Tight Session Security - DoS Prevention, IPSec Encryption, Intrusion Prevention, Spoofing, Theft of Service Prevention, Fraud Logging, Packet Filtering, Blacklisting, etc.

--Stateful SIP Proxy and Firewall/NAT Traversal

--Dynamic Session Security and Session Bandwidth Management

--Intelligent SIP Routing

--High Capacity and Reliability

The 3GX, currently in customer trials, will enable seamless security and scale of real-time services across cellular, Wi-Fi, and SIP-based networks. The 3GX solution has a defined future-proof evolutionary path to enable service providers to deliver profitable SIP-based convergence services while carefully staging investments in next generation networks. As a next-generation platform the 3GX offers the industry's highest levels of performance, capacity and availability in a single platform:

--Up to 1000 IP Sec Tunnels Per Second

--Up to 500,000 Concurrent IPSec Tunnels (subscribers)

--Up to 1 Million SIP BHCA

--Up to 500,000 FW/NAT FW/NAT Fire Wall/Network Address Translation (Netrate)  Traversals for SIP endpoints
