Netli Pumps Up Accelerated SSL Delivery.

X.509 Client Certificate Support Added to Secure Application Acceleration Service

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Netli[R], the fastest growing global service provider for accelerating applications and content over the Internet, today announced its industry leading secure application acceleration service supports X.509 client based Refers to hardware or software that runs in the user's machine. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data.  Delivery with X.509 client certificate support, is designed to ensure global LAN-like response times for web-enabled applications that rely on SSL and are secured further with X.509 client based certificates. In a separate release, Netli also announced NetliDRM for greater control over content delivery (see release titled, "Netli Adds Digital Rights Management to Application Acceleration and Content Delivery Services See CDN. ," dated Dec. 4). The new feature enables enterprises with the highest security requirements to add client authentication (1) Verifying the integrity of a transmitted message. , requiring users accessing the server to exchange an X.509 client certificate - assuring that the person represented by the certificate is the person you expect. With Accelerated SSL Delivery with X.509 client support, web-enabled enterprises can deliver global LAN-like response times for all their transactions without sacrificing security or control.

Web-enabled enterprises that deploy business-critical applications over the Internet must protect data with the same level of security offered on a private LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. . To do so, these companies make extensive use of SSL. The use of SSL, however, presents several challenges because it significantly increases latency, resulting in poor performance and a negative user experience.

security environments to further protect their applications," said Willie M. Tejada, senior vice president of marketing and business development at Netli. "Implementing this security, however, has often been a trade off of security and performance. Netli enables enterprises to implement the most secure environments while delivering global LAN-like response times."

system and integrated SSL acceleration SSL acceleration is a method of offloading the processor-intensive public key encryption algorithms involved in SSL transactions to a hardware accelerator. Typically, this is a separate card that plugs into a PCI slot in a computer that contains one or more co-processors able to  sub-systems to enable transport and application-layer optimizations on SSL-encrypted content. The service supports x.509 client certificates used to secure access of mission-critical, encrypted dynamic applications, content, and web services (1) Loosely, any online service delivered over the Web. In addition, the Netli Accelerated SSL Delivery service requires no application modifications or infrastructure build-out, ensuring immediate time-to-value and the lowest total cost of ownership available in the market today.
