Netier's New Server Runs Most Demanding Network Applications on Enterprise Scale; Company's Thin-Client/Server Solution Incorporates Latest Intel Pentium II Xeon Technology.

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 1999--Netier Technologies, a developer of end-to-end server-based computing Refers to applications that run in a server. Also known as "thin client computing," it may refer to a browser-based environment that uses a Web browser as the client with all applications running on a Web server on the Internet or in an intranet on the LAN.  solutions, has introduced its new Atlas II Atlas II was a member of the Atlas family of launch vehicles, which evolved from the successful Atlas missile program of the 1950s. Atlas II was the last Atlas to use a three engine, "stage-and-a-half" design: two of its three engines were jettisoned during ascent, but its fuel (TM) Enterprise server to provide the greatest power available today for mid-range enterprise use.

The server is designed around the industry-leading Intel Pentium(R) II Xeon(TM) processor technology, best suited for executing the new breed of strategic business applications, especially in thin-client environments.

The Atlas II Enterprise server supports from one to four 400- or 450-MHz processors and offers up to 2MB full-speed L2 cache (Level 2 cache) A memory bank built into the CPU chip, packaged within the same module or built on the motherboard. The L2 cache feeds the L1 cache, and its memory is slower than L1 memory. The L2 cache feeds the L1 cache, which feeds the processor.  per CPU CPU

The larger cache and faster processors are especially beneficial for applications with demanding requirements such as server farms, database servers and other high-performance CPU or I/O bound Refers to an excessive amount of time getting data in and out of the computer in relation to the time it takes for processing it. "Thin-client computing is driving the development of extremely powerful, reliable servers, and Netier has again proven its commitment to staying ahead of the curve with the debut of our Atlas II Enterprise model," said Jim Crocco, Netier's president. "The addition of this server to our product family provides our customers with another reason -- price/performance -- why Netier makes sense for the broad range of business uses now and in the future."

The Atlas II Enterprise server offers up to 4GB of system memory, perfect for the most intensive server applications. The 800-Mbps memory bus provides high-speed, high-bandwidth memory access. Its hot-swappable redundant power system and six hard drive bays maximize uptime even during upgrading sessions. The 267-Mbps main system bus delivers peak bandwidth. Optimized for thin-client/server computing operating systems Operating systems can be categorized by technology, ownership, licensing, working state, usage, and by many other characteristics. In practice, many of these groupings may overlap. , such as Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  4.0(R) Terminal Server Edition with Citrix MetaFrame(TM) and Citrix(R) WinFrame(R), the Atlas II Enterprise is also customizable for all Windows NT server environments.

The Atlas II Enterprise server features a variety of built-in server management features, including automatic failure detection for power supplies, fans, CPUs, memory and disk drives. The Emergency Management Port enables remote shut down and power-up as well as remote viewing of system event logs, thermal data and other system information.

Depending upon LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  configurations and applications, the Atlas II Enterprise server can boost the number of end-user workstations from approximately 25 to 35 seats to about 70 to 90 seats per processor. A server configured with four processors can serve up to 240 seats. The new server enclosure can be configured for rack-mount or pedestal usage within a single chassis, providing installation flexibility.

Netier's Atlas II product line provides a full compliment of servers that can be sized to meet each organization's thin-client requirements from small office or departmental uses to broad enterprise deployments requiring server farms. Netier enables client management from the server with the addition of Rapport(TM) Administrative Software which delivers extensive remote management to Netier(1)s NetXpress(TM) SL series thin-client access devices and Citrix ICA Ica (ē`kä), city (1993 pop. 108,724), capital of Ica dept., SW Peru, on the Pan-American Highway.
