NetRight Ships New Three-Tier Thin Client -- Drastically Reducing the Total Cost of Owning a Document Management System.

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 1998--

The Release of iManage Network 4.0 Further Solidifies NetRight's

High Reliability, High Up Time, and Lower Total Cost of

Ownership

NetRight Technologies Monday announced the release of its new three-tier document management product called iManage Network 4.0.

The underlying theme of this new product architecture and functionality is to provide a simple modular infrastructure that guarantees high up time, ease of installation and maintenance, and lower total cost of ownership over the lifetime of the product.

Traditional two-tier document management systems on the market have been plagued with complicated installation and maintenance procedures and repeated system failures, resulting in costly down time. iManage Network 4.0 solves these problems by delivering a product that is solid and reliable -- and guarantees a high return on investment.

All new features added to iManage 4.0 were designed to deliver the following benefits:
1)   provide scalability;
2)   guarantee system availability;
3)   enable ease of deployment and maintenance;
4) support large user base/large document base; and
5) support complex searching criteria/customizable interface.

The above-mentioned benefits translate into lower total cost of ownership throughout the lifetime of the document management system (DMS).

System Scalability and Availability

Vendors often speak of a product being able to scale from a small number of users to thousands of users. However, the concept of scalability is all relative. The issue of scalability is irrelevant without system availability.

"When you are talking about thousands of users you simply can't tolerate tol·er·ate

3. To have tolerance for a substance or pathogen.
 any down time. Down time on a large installation (thousands of users, millions of documents) will stop a company in its tracks. A DMS system must guarantee availability," said Rafiq Mohammadi, chief technology officer for NetRight Technologies.

"Many market-share DMS leaders are notorious for their products' down time, and MIS directors See CIO.

 over the lifetime of a product," said John Owens John Owens (1790–1846), English merchant, was born in Manchester, England in 1790, the son of a prosperous merchant. Early in life he became a partner in his father's business and was soon noted for his ability as a cotton buyer. , vice president of sales at NetRight Technologies.

iManage Network 4.0's unique product distinction is that it not only provides scalability but also availability.

iManage Network 4.0 directly addresses the issue of increased up time and greater product reliability with simple, modular, fault-tolerant architecture. iManage Network 4.0's uniqueness is in the simplicity of the middle tier (1) Generally refers to the processing that takes place in an application server that sits between the user's machine and the database server. The middle tier server performs the business logic. See application server and client/server.  running on a Windows multi-threaded model.

If the middle tier were to fail, all the associated clients would not experience a general protection fault error (GPF (1) (General Protection Fault) The name given to a crash in Windows, starting with Windows 3.1. See crash in Windows.

(2) (Gpf) (GUI Programming Facility) An OS/2 application generator originally from GPF Systems, Inc.
). Instead NetRight's redundant middle tier would simply pick up where the other left off, thereby dramatically reducing costly down time.

Ease of Deployment and Maintenance

In order for a product to scale an entire enterprise, it not only must be available at all times, it must also be easy to deploy and maintain. The time now required to roll out and maintain iManage Network enterprisewide is drastically dras·tic

 reduced.

iManage Network 4.0 not only increases the reliability of the day-to-day operations, but also reduces the time and money associated with installation and maintenance of the system.

For example, the iManage Network 4.0 "thin client" doesn't require SQL SQL

Therefore, time and effort required to install and maintain each workstation is greatly reduced while preserving full functionality.

 that the client may be getting a reduced feature set. With iManage's new three-tier thin client, absolutely no functionality is lost. In fact it is even enhanced.

"One of the most significant pieces of our new three-tier thin client is the ability to remotely access integrated document management," said Mohammadi. NetRight's concept of integrated remote access to DMS is that when working outside the office, a client dials in, when working inside the office, the client uses the network.

"Other than dialing in versus using the network, there is no difference to the end user in terms of functionality or interface," said Mohammadi.
