NetManage Extends Host-Connectivity Options; Enables Users to Easily

and Quickly Access, Manage and Share DB2 Database Information

NetManage, Inc. (Nasdaq:NETM), a leading supplier of e-business access and application integration solutions, has signed a global licensing distribution agreement with Level 8 Systems (Nasdaq:LVEL), a provider of high performance e-business integration software. The agreement extends NetManage's host-connectivity products by providing its customers with Level 8 StarSQL solutions that enable direct access to IBM DB2 databases.

Under the agreement, NetManage has distribution rights worldwide for Level 8's StarSQL Windows Edition -- formerly known as StarSQL Enterprise, with StarPipes, and StarSQL Pro. StarSQL solutions are designed to enable corporate users working from PCs running over TCP/IP or SNA networks to access business-critical data from DB2 databases directly into their familiar desktop environment.

Making DB2 data readily available to more users enables organizations to be better informed and more responsive to customer needs and successfully capitalize on new and existing business opportunities. StarSQL solutions act as the bridge between ODBC-enabled Windows applications and DB2 data including spreadsheets, data marts, decision support tools, and applications written with Visual Basic, PowerBuilder or other Windows-based development tools. StarSQL solutions leverage existing hardware and network connections to provide fast, direct access to IBM's DB2 relational databases from any Open Database Connectivity (ODBC)-compliant desktop application, column-by-column, row-by-row, and record-by-record.

StarSQL converts ODBC calls from ODBC-enabled applications into DRDA and sends the DRDA requests to the DB2 for processing. Additionally, StarSQL works with Cisco Transaction Connection or a direct TCP/IP connection and runs on the desktop, with no host software or proprietary gateways required. This is designed to minimize traffic on the network by only transferring the information necessary to complete each transaction.
