Gatner, VOIP is typical of many new technologies--the product technology arrives without the support systems to manage it efficiently and effectively. VOIP will usually share much, if not all, of the existing data network infrastructure, including the LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  and the corporate Intranet.
