NetEx HyperIP Powers 60 Terabyte Email Migration Project for EarthLink.MINNEAPOLIS -- NetEx, the worldwide leader in high performance data transport solutions, today announced the successful completion of a 60 terabyte email migration project for EarthLink (NASDAQ NASDAQ in full National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations U.S. market for over-the-counter securities. Established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), NASDAQ is an automated quotation system that reports on :ELNK ELNK EarthLink, Inc. (stock symbol) ELNK Ethernet Link ), the nation's next generation Internet See Internet2. service provider. The project leveraged NetEx's HyperIP DRO DRO Digital Readout DRO Detention and Removal Operations (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) DRO Domestic Relations Order DRO Department of Radiation Oncology DRO Dielectric Resonator Oscillator DRO Destructive Read Out (Data Replication Optimizer) to accelerate the performance of EMC's Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF SRDF Symmetrix Remote Data Facility SRDF Symmetric Remote Data Facility ) over the Internet. EarthLink's Mail Storage Consolidation project consisted of relocating more than nine million mailboxes from Pasadena, Calif., to their Atlanta data center during a single overnight window. EarthLink accomplished their migration by implementing a cross-country Gigabit Ethernet solution that combined HyperIP and SRDF to move the data over their production IP/MPLS IP/MPLS Internet Protocol/Multi-Protocol Label Switching Internet backbone. "Incorporating HyperIP with SRDF improved the migration performance over the IP network by 50 percent, allowing the final migration to be completed within EarthLink's targeted window," said Robert MacIntyre, Vice President, Business Development and Marketing at NetEx. "The bottom line was that EarthLink ended up with a native Gig-E data transfer solution that not only allowed the project to happen within very tight time constraints but also with the highest performance." The HyperIP-SRDF solution sustained effective data throughput rates of more than one terabyte per hour, enabling SRDF to sustain nearly 100 percent of its theoretical maximum performance in EarthLink's production environment. This data replication technology utilized the allocated bandwidth of 800 Mbps across the Gig-E/MPLS link and minimized the adverse effects of jitter, out-of-sequence packets, varied latency exceeding 100 milliseconds, and packet loss as high as 2.0 percent. "HyperIP was an important factor in the success of EarthLink's email migration project and enabled us to complete the project within a six-hour window -- minimizing downtime and eliminating the impact of this move on our subscribers Internet and email experiences," said Tripp Cox, chief technology officer at EarthLink. About HyperIP DRO HyperIP DRO is the industry's first Data Replication Optimizer, enabling maximum data replication acceleration over existing IP networks and providing an alternative to Fibre Channel over IP technologies. HyperIP eliminates the inefficiencies of traditional TCP/IP-based networks by accelerating leading data replication applications, such as SRDF, to deliver throughput boosts ranging from 300 to 1000 percent depending on the application. HyperIP DRO substantially improves end-to-end performance, compared with costly and complex Fibre Channel WAN products. For enterprises choosing iSCSI or TCP-based remote replication, HyperIP DRO benefits these applications by accelerating data replication over any distance, improving link utilization and shielding the application throughput against the adverse effects of packet loss.
