Image Wireless is the MMDS (Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service or Microwave Multipoint Distribution Service) A digital wireless transmission system that works in the 2.2-2.4 GHz range.  license holder for the Province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Their primary business is digital video services but with the growth rate of data customers, Image Wireless expects the number of data customers to out-number their video customers in the near future.

The technical challenge Image Wireless faced was to effectively deploy services to the sprawling population of their licensed area in the Canadian Prairies The Canadian prairies is a large area of flat sedimentary land stretching throughout western Canada between the Canadian Shield in the east and the Canadian Rockies. The Canadian prairies – the portion of the Great Plains landform that supports various grasses and shrubs . They currently have a network of 40 towers covering 90% of the population in Saskatchewan.

With this challenge, Image Wireless turned to Allot Communications' NetEnforcer to maximize the efficiency of their bandwidth while meeting SLAs and assuring a high level QoS to their expansive customer base.

"The NetEnforcer's flexibility in traffic shaping Using methods to keep traffic flowing smoothly in a network. Although the term is often used synonymously with "traffic engineering," traffic shaping deals with managing the network moment to moment, whereas traffic engineering refers to the overall strategies employed in a network.  based on IP, MAC, protocol, client, server, time of day, as well as its reporting capabilities made it the perfect fit," states Grant Nicol, Systems Engineer for Image Wireless Communications. "We also rely heavily on the network monitoring The term network monitoring describes the use of a system that constantly monitors a computer network for slow or failing systems and that notifies the network administrator in case of outages via email, pager or other alarms.  of the NetEnforcer to determine how our network is operating -- we are planning six more sites and would not be without a NetEnforcer at these locations."

Image Wireless has added one more NetEnforcer and NetAccountant feature as an important part of their business plan. The NetEnforcer has allowed Image Wireless to offer services to both rural and urban customers while maintaining the same level of service for the same cost.

"The NetEnforcer with its browser interface makes remote operation painless," explains Nicol. "The units have also proven to be what I would classify Zero maintenance with at least a 99.999% reliability rating."

Allot Communications' network solutions offer service providers' revenue generation opportunities based on their current infrastructure. "Image Wireless Communications' deployment of Allot's NetEnforcer is another testimony that Allot products are a necessary element to deploy wireless networks," states PG Narayanan, CEO of Allot Communications.

The Allot NetEnforcer is a critical element in Image Wireless' Broadband Fixed Wireless Access system by providing different levels of service to customers based on the NetEnforcer's ability to shape and control IP traffic.
