This new technology includes a new Loop Bonding ADSL Modem, the ANE8420-S, as well as new functionality for Net to Net's IP DSLAMs.

Many telcos are looking to IP television, also known as broadcast video or "Telco TV", to help them compete against cable and satellite providers that are already offering "Triple Play" services. By offering video services in addition to voice and high-speed Internet See broadband. , telcos can realize a significant increase in the average revenue per user.

"Our ADSL Loop Bonding technology drastically increases market opportunities for telcos looking to increase revenues," stated Matthew Byrd, VP of Marketing for Net to Net. "Our current installations have shown that bandwidth is the determining factor for offering triple play services to the subscriber, and our loop bonding technology delivers the necessary bandwidth at greater distances than any other vendor can deliver today. Telcos can now deliver all services to all subscribers, allowing them to compete more effectively against cable and satellite providers."

IP TV requires a significant increase in DSL bandwidth to provide multiple TV channels into the home, and Net to Net's loop bonding technology provides the necessary bandwidth to offer this service. Current ADSL technology is limited to 10.5 Mbps downstream bandwidth at approximately 10,000 feet from the central office. As most video streams are currently encoded at 3Mbps, this amount of bandwidth realistically allows for two set top boxes (two TVs) plus one high-speed Internet connection to the home. Net to Net's ANE8420-S allows telcos to bond two copper pairs together to deliver a remarkable 21 Mbps out to 10,000 feet from the Central Office or Remote Terminal. This bandwidth is nearly the equivalent of VDSL bandwidth, but can be delivered at ADSL distances, which is twice the distance that VDSL supports. Even more important, using Net to Net's Loop Bonded ADSL technology, telcos can provide 12-15 Mbps out to 15,000 feet, which enables a significantly larger market for triple play services, allowing telcos to provide these services to more subscribers.

Net to Net's Loop Bonding technology is completely plug 'n' play, requiring no configuration for the network operator, does not require additional hardware or software such as ML-PPP ML-PPP Multi-Link Point-To-Point Protocol , and does not use ATM technology (or IMA (Interactive Multimedia Association, Annapolis, MD) An earlier trade association founded in 1988 originally as the Interactive Video Industry Association. It provided an open process for adopting existing technologies and was involved in subjects such as networked services, scripting ) to provide the service. Additionally, Loop Bonding is based on Net to Net's Ethernet-based IP DSL technologies, which lead the industry in ease-of-use and return on investment (ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot). ).

The ANE8420-S ADSL Loop Bonding modem features 2 ADSL lines, including internal POTS filters, that allow standard voice transmission over both ADSL lines. Additionally, the modem features an integrated 4-port IGMP-enabled Ethernet switch A device that connects clients and servers to each other in an Ethernet network. See switched Ethernet. . IGMP (Internet Group Multicast Protocol) The protocol that governs the management of multicast groups in a TCP/IP network. To sign up for a multicast group, a Host Membership Report is sent by a user's machine to its nearest routers, which forward that data to  is the underlying technology used to provide channel changes for IP TV, and by supporting this on the modem, Net to Net gives the telco more control over the bandwidth in the home network.

The ANE8420-S will be available in July 2003, and may be purchased either directly from Net to Net or through its IPartner resellers.
