Nero - First To Support Layer-Jump Recording of Dual-Layer DVD-R Media.

KARLSBAD Karlsbad: see Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic., Germany -- Equipped with this new technology, Nero Nero (Nero Claudius Caesar) (nēr`ō), A.D. 37–A.D. 68, Roman emperor (A.D. 54–A.D. 68). He was originally named Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus and was the son of Cnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus (consul in A.D. 32) and of Agrippina the Younger, who was the great-granddaughter of Augustus. Agrippina married (A.D. Burning ROM and Nero Express will now offer OEM customers multi-session See multisession. burning and improved read compatibility

Nero, leaders in digital media technologies, announced today that its applications, Nero Burning ROM A popular CD packet writing application from Ahead Software AG, Karlsbad, Germany (www.nero.com). Highly praised for its professional and comprehensive features, Nero has been widely used to "burn" CD-Rs and write CD-RWs. Newer versions support DVDs as well, and the "Burning Rome" pun has given way to a simpler software brand, just plain "Nero." Ahead, founded in 1995, offers several multimedia applications. and Nero Express, now support Layer-Jump Recording (LJR LJR - Lead Joint Runner

Layer-jump recording (LJR) now provides multi-session burning of dual-layer DVD-R media. In other words, data can be added to a medium over several burning sessions, with the sessions appearing in the sequential order in which they were originally recorded. Both Nero and the burner manufacturer's firmware previously only supported disc-at-once To record all the data on a CD-R disc at one time. The lead-in, all the tracks and lead-out are written, the session is closed, and the disc is closed. The laser is kept on for the entire session, and the two-second gaps between tracks are eliminated. At one time, CD manufacturers asked for disc-at-once CD-R masters to ensure a proper reproduction, but this requirement has been mostly relaxed. Unlike dual-layer recording, in which data is first written to one layer and then to the other, layer-jump recording alternates between both layers during the burning process, thereby evenly distributing the data between both layers. The written area of both layers expands evenly outwards with each burning session. This means adjacent layer areas always contain data, resulting in a reduction in background noise and better signal quality. This, in turn, leads to higher read compatibility even on DVD-ROM drives.

"We are proud to be the first company to offer our customers burning software supporting this technology," says Jim Corbett, Executive Director of Nero AG. "New multi-session recording will permit dual-layer DVD-Rs to be burned over several sessions, thus allowing full utilization of the medium."
