Nemak to perform $90 million expansion of Windsor Aluminum Plant to increase block capacity. (Industry News).


Nemak of Canada Corp., Windsor, Ontario Windsor is the southernmost city in Canada and lies at the western end of the heavily populated Quebec City-Windsor Corridor. Windsor is located directly south of Detroit and is separated from that city by the Detroit River. Nemak's expansion will boost this to 1.2 million blocks.

Windsor Aluminum Plant was built by Ford Motor Co. in 1989 and was quickly expanded from its original 89,000 sq ft to its present 320,000 sq ft. Windsor Aluminum Plant supplies blocks to Ford engine plants across North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. .

It is expected that up to 100 new jobs will be created when the expansion is complete. The expansion will be built on a 16-acre site and should begin shipping blocks in September 2003.

Nemak, Monterey, Mexico, was created as a joint venture between Alfa and Ford Motor Co. in 1980. Nemak assumed ownership and control of Windsor Aluminum Plant from Ford in 2001.

"Nemak's decision to invest in a major expansion and increased production at Windsor Aluminum Plant demonstrates the company's confidence in the quality and productivity of its Windsor workforce," Smillie said.
