Nelson slips to ninth-place tie.

SPOKANE - Second-round leader Birk Nelson of Diamond Woods Golf Course in Monroe shot a 73 on Sunday to finish in a tie for ninth place at the Rosauers Invitational golf tournament.

Nelson, who finished with a 204 at Indian Canyon Golf Course, earned $3,372 for his efforts. He shot a 7-under-par 64 on Saturday to take a one-shot lead over Jeff Coston.

On Sunday, Coston made eight birdies en route to a final-round score of 63 to win the tournament by three strokes at 196.

The Rapids will next try to qualify for the national tournament at the regional qualifying tournament in Salem, July 21-23.

Oregon Reign capture fourth at tournament

REDMOND - The Oregon Reign claimed fourth place at the ASA 12A state softball tournament Sunday.

The Reign edged the Beaverton Blaze Keller 3-2 but were defeated 8-0 by the Salem Scorpions for their second loss in the double-elimination tournament A double-elimination tournament is a competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost two games or matches. .

Kaitlyn Anderson was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Kristina Meza pitched a seven-inning three-hitter, striking out four and giving up no earned runs in the win over Beaverton.

The Reign finished their season with a 34-19-2 record.
