Nebraska Lottery Awards GTECH Scratch (Instant) Ticket Lottery Contract.
GTECH (NYSE: GTK) announced today that the Company has been awarded a contract to supply scratch (instant) ticket lottery products, a scratch ticket lottery system, and related services for the Nebraska Lottery. The proposed four-year contract award, which is expected to include two three-year extension options, follows a competitive procurement process.
"This is clearly a significant win for us, and one very much in keeping with our new business strategy which is to first and foremost focus on our core lottery business," said W. Bruce Turner, chairman of GTECH. "We have enjoyed a successful relationship with the Nebraska Lottery for many years, and we look forward to continuing our partnership, ensuring that the best interests of the state are served."
Under the terms of the agreement, GTECH will supply the Nebraska Lottery with 900 dual bar code readers, which will attach to GTECH's existing online infrastructure of 900 Tiffany(TM) terminals, and 400 GVTs (GTECH Validation Terminals). GVTs are compact, point-of-sale devices which automate scratch ticket validation and inventory control, thus enabling lotteries to effectively manage their products. In addition, the Company will provide a variety of ongoing services for the Lottery, including the provision of scratch lottery tickets, the installation and maintenance of the central system hardware and software, telecommunications network, retailer training, and marketing support services.
GTECH has been the operator of the Nebraska Lottery's online games since 1994. Since the Lottery's inception in 1993, over $128 million has been raised for good causes. Proceeds from the Lottery are transferred to beneficiary funds, which, in turn, make grants for educational and environmental projects.
