Graphics Performance

NeTpower, the originator of Windows NT system solutions, today announced its SYMETRA 4300 deskside and SYMETRA 4300R rackmount Windows NT workstations featuring the new 400MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  Intel(TM) Pentium(R)II processor.

Built around the new Intel 440BX AGPset, the dual-processor capable SYMETRA 4300 delivers up to 20 percent better system performance for use with power-hungry visual computing applications. When combined with NeTpower's AGP-based SilverpoiNT 5000 3D graphics card, the SYMETRA 4300 provides the highest performance of any Windows NT workstation for graphics-intensive applications used in Digital Media and 3D Design applications. The SYMETRA 4300 and 4300R can be ordered immediately from NeTpower for delivery in May.

"By delivering powerful Windows NT workstations like the SYMETRA 4300, with our own cutting-edge graphics technology and the latest Intel processors and chipsets, NeTpower continues to distinguish itself as a leading high performance Windows NT solutions provider for the visual computing community," said NeTpower founder and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Bob Miller. "NeTpower has closed the performance gap between open, Windows NT-based solutions and high-priced, proprietary UNIX systems to meet the demands of today's high-end visual computing users without putting undue strain on the bottom-line."

The feature-rich SYMETRA 4300 includes support for up to 2GB RAM, a dual integrated Ultra Wide SCSI controller, Adaptec's RAIDport technology and integrated 10/100Mbs networking with Wake On LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  technology. By incorporating Wake on LAN in support of Intel's Wired For Management Wired for Management (WfM) was a primarily hardware-based system allowing a newly built computer without any software to be manipulated by a master computer that could access the hard disk of the new PC to paste the install program.  Initiative, NeTpower enables IT managers to power-on the SYMETRA 4300 during off-hours for general maintenance, software upgrades or other trouble-shooting activities. To complement these features, SYMETRA 4300 is also available in a low-profile rackmount design, minimizing use of valuable IT real estate. With its robust feature set and ease of management capabilities, SYMETRA 4300 and SYMETRA 4300R enable companies to deploy top-of-the-line 3D workstations on all of their creative professionals' desktops at an affordable price.

"NeTpower's workstations based on the new Intel Pentium II processor offer a wise investment choice for businesses by delivering excellent performance, manageability and room for future growth," said Paul Otellini, executive vice president, Intel Architecture Business Group. "Workstations based on these new processors enable the productivity, visual computing experience and performance that even the most demanding users expect."

SYMETRA 4300 CAPITALIZES ON STRENGTH OF SILVERPOINT GRAPHICS

With the highest 3D graphics performance of any Windows NT graphics card, the SilverpoiNT 5000 graphics subsystem brings a combination of unique features to the SYMETRA 4300 family of workstations. This includes 120 bits of memory per-pixel, a 32-bit Z-buffer for ultra-precise 3D rendering, 8-bit window IDs to support 255 simultaneous double-buffered windows, 4-bit GIDs to maintain performance when 2D windows overlay 3D windows, 8-bit stencil stencil, cutout device of oiled or shellacked tough and resistant paper, thin metal, or other material used in applying paint, dye, or ink to reproduce its design or lettering upon a surface.  planes for special effects, and 4 FCP (Fibre Channel Protocol) See Fibre Channel.

bits for fast Z-buffer clearing. NeTpower's AGiLE chip provides hardware per-window double-buffering, which is not found in other GLINT implementations. This features NeTpower's TearFree(TM) technology which ensures flicker-free rotations and animations, while minimizing double-buffering overhead, thus maximizing rendering performance in real applications, delivering a blazing 3.3 million polygons per second, texture mapping of over 66 million bilinear bi·lin·e·ar

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

A dual-processor capable SYMETRA 4300 workstation equipped with a 400MHz Pentium II processor, 64MB of RAM, a 2GB Ultra SCSI disk and a NeTpower TRUEfx2 graphics card starts at $4,900. A similarly configured SYMETRA 4300R rackmount system is also available starting at $5,620. NeTpower also offers the SYMETRA 4300 with 128MB RAM, 4GB system disk with Windows NT Workstation 4.0 and a SilverpoiNT 5000 graphics card for $8,925.
