NeTpower Announces Sparta FailSafe Solution based on Octopus Technologies' Fault Tolerance Product; NeTpower Solution Delivers High-Availability for Robust Server Environments.

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 25, 1996--NeTpower today announced its Phased Clustering Initiative, with the launch of the Sparta FailSafe Solution, a high-availability clustering High-availability clusters (also known as HA Clusters or Failover Clusters) are computer clusters that are implemented primarily for the purpose of improving the availability of services which the cluster provides.  solution designed to provide mission-critical fault tolerance See fault tolerant.

(architecture) fault tolerance - 1. The ability of a system or component to continue normal operation despite the presence of hardware or software faults. This often involves some degree of redundancy.

Targeted at departmental and enterprise Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  Server deployments, the Sparta FailSafe Solution ensures high-availability of data and uninterrupted client support.

The Sparta FailSafe Solution consists of a NeTpower Sparta Server and Octopus Technologies' real-time mirroring solution with Super Automatic Switch Over (SASO SASO Saudi Arabian Standards Organization

List priced at $1,660, NeTpower customers have the option of configuring the systems in a one-to-one, one-to-many, or many-to-many setup. The Sparta FailSafe Solution will integrate Sparta Server(s) with Octopus Server 2.0 with SASO in the factory and will ship pre-configured to customer sites.

"Combining NeTpower's server technology with Octopus Technologies' real-time server data protection product for mission-critical environments, is a natural extension of NeTpower's existing server offering," said Linda Hargrove, marketing vice president of NeTpower.

"NeTpower's servers feature many high-availability options designed to address the demands of today's database and communications deployments. We see the addition of the Sparta FailSafe Solution as an affirmation of our commitment to providing robust, mission-critical solutions for the Windows NT Server market."

"NeTpower's focus on providing high-performance, high-availability systems exclusively for the Windows NT Server market mirrors Octopus' dedicated focus on the Windows NT community," said Dave Crocker, president of Yardley, Pa.-based Octopus Technologies. "The combination of the Octopus Super ASO ASO arteriosclerosis obliterans.

product and NeTpower's quad processor Sparta Servers will provide a robust fault-tolerant solution for customers who demand protection in a high-performance Intel-based environment."

Targeted at server users with demanding applications in departmental and enterprise wide deployments, the Octopus Server with Super ASO provides real time data mirroring and Super Automatic Switch Over to a designated target server, in less than one second. Data files or directories are mirrored in real time over local or remote networks to user-specified target servers and backup of data is provided without interruption to the client systems.

In the event of a source server failure, the target server takes control automatically, assuming the name and IP address of one or more failed source systems, without the need of manual intervention or system reboot To reload the operating system, which restarts the computer. See boot.

. Clients are automatically connected to the target once it has assumed control. The target server does not have to be a dedicated server and can be utilized to perform other operations, maximizing the return on the server investment.

"This announcement is the first step in NeTpower's plans to provide a complete cluster offering," said Mike Dove, vice-president engineering, software and graphics, of NeTpower. "The Sparta FailSafe Solution represents the first step -- or phase one -- of NeTpower's clustering strategy. The combination of Sparta Servers and Octopus' fault tolerant The ability to continue non-stop when a hardware failure occurs. A fault-tolerant system is designed from the ground up for reliability by building multiples of all critical components, such as CPUs, memories, disks and power supplies into the same computer.  technology deliver a robust failover solution today, while ensuring compatibility with future cluster offerings."

NeTpower plans to continue to work with Microsoft to bring to market Wolfpack clustering products. As an active participant in Microsoft's Wolfpack group, NeTpower will be among the first group of OEMs to demonstrate the Wolfpack solution when it becomes available. Octopus Technologies product will support the Wolfpack clustering application programming interfaces (APIs) for Windows NT.

"This announcement points to the industry's acknowledgment that phase one of clustering is now readily available for production applications," said Jack Fegreus, editor-in-chief of BackOffice Magazine, a Pennwell Publication. "NeTpower's decision to integrate Octopus Server 2.0 w/SASO, with their high-performance Sparta Server line will provide a valuable option for NT Server deployments requiring high-availability and failover protection."
