NeTegrity to ship first release of SiteMinder Authentication Server.
Teams With Major Interoperability Partners
NeTegrity, Inc., (NASDAQ: NETE, Boston Stock Exchange: NTY) a leading provider of next-generation security products and services for data and voice networking applications, today announced it will begin OEM and direct customer shipments of the SiteMinder Authentication Server, the first phase of its pioneering enterprise-wide network security management system. Currently, The Boston Globe is a charter user of the product. NeTegrity also said it has agreed with major interoperability vendors to promote open architecture in the network security arena. These partners include Ascend Communications, BBN Planet, Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., Cisco Systems, Inc., and Raptor Systems, Inc.
The SiteMinder Authentication Server, the first available component of the SiteMinder product family, is the only open, standards-based security server to provide centralized verification of the identities of people accessing corporate networks and applications across an enterprise. Through its Web-based interface and robust underlying architecture, the SiteMinder Authentication Server supports multiple authentication schemes and tokens, and the security solution provides a single point of user identification for both communications servers and firewalls. Built on the industry-standard RADIUS protocol, the SiteMinder Server boasts "from-the-ground-up" integration with Microsoft's Windows NT.
As a charter user of the SiteMinder product family, The Boston Globe is expected to deploy the network security capabilities of the product. "We brought SiteMinder in because we think the product will do for network security managers what network management stations did for network managers," said Kai Lee, Manager of Networks and Communications at the Globe Newspaper Company.
Because of the SiteMinder standards-based architecture, scalability, flexible and centralized auditing and administration capabilities, Fortune 1000 companies seeking to protect mission critical information are increasingly viewing the product as a core component of their Internet/intranet and overall network security solutions.
"This first release of the SiteMinder Authentication Server signifies the beginning of a new era in enterprise security management," said Barry Bycoff, NeTegrity's CEO. "As mission critical data becomes more vulnerable, Fortune 1000 companies are growing increasingly aware of the importance of secure networking solutions that integrate existing, heterogeneous network access devices, such as firewalls and communications servers, employ standard protocols, scale with the organization, and combine distributed management with centralized control. We are truly excited to fulfill our promise to deliver a pioneering security technology for the next decade."
Additionally, with the SiteMinder Authentication Server now commercially available, NeTegrity is launching its interoperability partnership program to assure an open security architecture across the industry. To date, NeTegrity has developed strategic interoperability agreements. These include Ascend Communications, BBN Planet, Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., Cisco Systems, Inc., and Raptor Systems, Inc. In each agreement, the partner is working closely with NeTegrity to insure that mutual customers can benefit from the open, scalable, and low-cost operation of the SiteMinder architecture.

"These two products provide our mutual customers with a dependable, secure solution for running mission-critical remote access systems. SiteMinder's RADIUS server support for multiple authentication styles and remote administration make it a natural fit for user authentication management in heterogeneous firewall and dial-up environments."
"Based on our interoperability testing with the PIX Firewall, we see excellent synergy with NeTegrity's SiteMinder, which provides customers with the valuable combination of multiple remote user authentication and management servers plus Cisco's industry-leading PIX Firewall performance via its Cut-Through Proxy technology." said Frank Roys, marketing director of the Internet Appliance & Applications Business Unit at Cisco Systems, Inc. "Now remote users will get no-wait internet access for business transactions requiring secure access to corporate data."
"Raptor has always maintained its aggressive support of open standards for information security," said Lance Urbas, Raptor's vice president of product marketing and technical services. "Our shared support with NeTegrity for RADIUS authentication technology ensures end users with interoperable solutions for building robust network security policies and practices."
The SiteMinder Authentication Server is the first phase of NeTegrity's comprehensive set of open, integrated enterprise network security management tools. The company's next product release, the SiteMinder Authorization Server, is expected to begin shipping later this year. The forthcoming product will be fully compatible with the Authentication Server, and will give security managers unprecedented visibility and central control of remote and local user access to network application resources. Pricing for the SiteMinder Authentication Server begins at $2,995 for a 50 user-license.
