Navy/Marine Corps Service Day .


The Navy/Marine Corps Service Day on May 29, 2002, included a morning general session and afternoon workshops. Mrs. Gladys J. Commons, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (abbrev. "ASN") is the title given to certain senior officials in the U.S. Department of the Navy. They serve as chief assistants to the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV).  (Financial Management and Comptroller) (FM&C), welcomed attendees to the morning session and introduced the speakers.

The keynote speaker was the Honorable Dionel M. Aviles, Assistant Secretary of the Navy (FM&C). He addressed the imminent financial management and funding issues facing the Department in the current and the next fiscal years.

Following that, Rear Admiral J.D. McCarthy, SC, USN, Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command, spoke of the trends in financial management from a customer and logistics perspective. Mr. Lee Krushinski, Director, Defense Finance and Accounting Service The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), an agency of the United States Department of Defense, provides finance and accounting services for the military and other members of defense.

In FY 2004, DFAS:
  • Processed 104M pay transactions to 5.
 (DFAS)-Cleveland, addressed the initiatives and improvements taking place within DFAS to aid the Department of the Navy (DON) in meeting its financial responsibilities.

The morning session closed with the presentation of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (FM&C) Financial Management Awards for 2002.

The afternoon session of Navy/Marine Corps Service Day included three periods of workshops, with a total of nineteen workshops. These workshops were presented by representatives of the ASN (1) (Autonomous System Number) A unique identifier of an autonomous system on the Internet. Of the 65 thousand ASNs available, more than 30 thousand have been assigned to ISPs and NSPs. ISPs usually have only one ASN, but NSPs may have more than one.  (FM&C), Office of Budget, Office of Financial Operations, and Office of Counsel, as well as the Naval Center for Cost Analysis, Naval Air Systems Command The Naval Air Systems Command, or NAVAIR, is the part of the United States Navy which provides materiel support for naval aircraft and airborne weapon systems, such as guided missiles. NAVAIR was established in 1966 as the successor to the Navy's Bureau of Naval Weapons (BuWeps). , Naval Transportation Command, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, and Headquarters Marine Corps.
