) today selected AT&T to provide personal telecommunications services In telecommunication, the term telecommunications service has the following meanings:

1. Any service provided by a telecommunication provider.

The license agreement, which has a ten-year initial term with five one-year renewal options, designates AT&T as the provider of bachelor quarters (BQ) and transient lodging facility in-room phone services for the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. The agreement also calls for discounted long distance service for private residential personal use; pay phones; long distance phone centers; subscriber/non-subscriber calling cards; over-the-counter and vended prepaid pre·pay

"This program will enhance the quality of life of the military members by providing improved personal telecommunications services at lower cost," said Rear Adm. Jack Kavanaugh, Commander, NEXCOM. "In addition, the agreement will generate monies which will benefit quality of life programs on each base."

The most important focus of the Personal Telecommunications Communicating information, including data, text, pictures, voice and video over long distance.
