Navigators tested for N.S. health authorities. (Health).

 health authorities have hired navigators to steer patients and their families through the maze of cancer treatment, follow-up and support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services .

Cancer Care Nova Scotia introduced the one-year pilot Patient Navigation program following consultations with cancer patients, family members, health professionals, community organizations and volunteers. Dr. Len Reyno, an oncologist who travels monthly to the Outreach Clinic in New Glasgow New Glasgow, town (1991 pop. 4,134), N N.S., Canada, on East River. It is an industrial town located in a coal region. Steel products and machinery are manufactured, and there is a large pulp mill nearby. , said his patients are already better prepared for their appointments with:

* information about community and financial supports,

* a better understanding of their disease and how it is affecting them,

* questions they need answered in order to make the right decisions.

The patient navigators are working in Southwest Nova, Pictou County and Guysborough Antigonish Strait strait (strat) a narrow passage.
