Navigating the LWVUS Web site. (Good Bytes).

(networking) org - The top-level domain for organisations or individuals that don't fit any other top-level domain (national, com, edu, or gov). Though many have .org domains, it was never intended to be limited to non-profit organisations.

That site has not changed very much in appearance since then, but it was further improved in 2001 with the addition of some powerful advocacy tools and easy printing features to mention just two items. As you visit the site, please keep in mind that it is a work in progress and is continuously being updated. However, if a major change is made, we will inform you as soon as possible.

If you have never visited the site or have not visited in a while or have had difficulty navigating (networking, hypertext) navigating - Finding your way around. Often used of the Internet, particularly the World-Wide Web.

When you visit www.lwv.org, this homepage is what you first see:

Starting at the right hand side of the page, you can click on one of the seven choices.

* JOIN US--an invitation to sign up for our online organization or sign up as a League member.

* WHERE WE STAND--tells you official League positions, League actions and achievements.

* GET INVOLVED--posts action alerts; allows you to respond to those alerts, join the grassroots Adj. 1. grassroots - fundamental; "the grassroots factor in making the decision"
basic - pertaining to or constituting a base or basis; "a basic fact"; "the basic ingredients"; "basic changes in public opinion occur because of changes in priorities"

 lobby corps, e-mail your senators and representatives, look up national and local media contacts, send a letter directly to an editor, find information on your state elected officials, and more.

* GET THE NEWS--find League press releases, news clips about League activity across the nation, League president's letters to Congress.

* VOTER VOTER. One entitled to a vote; an elector.  INFORMATION--gives you access to DNet, elected officials, voter registration Voter registration is the requirement in some democracies for citizens to check in with some central registry before being allowed to vote in elections. An effort to get people to register is known as a voter registration drive. Centralized/compulsory vs.  information, and more.

* E-LIBRARY--the Barbara Stuhler E-Library contains historical documents, debate videos, PSAs, etc. This is an ongoing project of building the League's online archives; also allows you to access current and back issues of The National Voter and other League publications.

* ABOUT US--contains a letter from the League president, our mission, state and local Leagues in action and more.

* BUILDING GLOBAL DEMOCRACY--provides access to League activity on the international front.

* CREATING A JUST SOCIETY--gives you information on League activity in the judicial arena.

* DEMOCRACYNET--this will take you to the DNet Web site for all the election information you need. Please note that because of funding limitations, DNet will be dormant Latent; inactive; silent. That which is dormant is not used, asserted, or enforced.

A dormant partner is a member of a partnership who has a financial interest yet is silent, in that he or she takes no control over the business.

* THE NATIONAL VOTER MAGAZINE--click here and you will be able to access the most current Voter articles as well as access previous issues in the archives.

Finally, at the bottom of the homepage from left to right, you will be able to choose from the following:

* SUPPORT US--gives you the opportunity to contribute to/join/support the League

* MEMBERS SITE--the portal to the members site, the state and local leaders site, and the national board member site. To access one of these sites, you will need both a user ID and a password.

The members section contains information for all League members such as copies of League mailings, Web and Print resources (including downloadable League logo), Convention/Council information, Position Updates and New Member information. If you are a member and do not know the passwords for this section, please contact the Membership and Field Support Department at (202) 429-1965 or membership@lwv.org.

The state and local leaders section contains specific tools to be used by State and Local Leaders and Board Members. If you need access, please contact the Membership and Field Support Department at (202) 429-1965 or membership@lwv. org.

* SEARCH--allows you to do a search of the Web site.

* CONTACT US--tells you how to reach LWVUS by phone and snail mail Mail sent via a country's government-regulated postal system.
