LM8272 Features High Output Current of 130mA, 2.5-24V Voltage Range,

Low Power Consumption of 800uA and Unlimited Capacitive Load Drive

National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE NYSE

:NSM (Network and System Management) Running and controlling the networks and computer systems in an enterprise. See network management. ) today announced the LM8272, a dual rail-to-rail operational amplifier operational amplifier, amplifier whose output voltage is proportional to the negative of its input voltage and that boosts the amplitude of an input signal many times, i.e., has a very high gain.  ideally suited for desktop and notebook TFT-LCD TFT-LCD Thin Film Transistor - Liquid Crystal Display  displays. The LM8272's high output current drives applications that need a large amount of current - key in larger panels. Its stable capacitive load drive eliminates flickering displays, allowing for a stable screen image.

"The LM8272 is ideal for running large TFT-LCD panels because of its high output current and unlimited capacitive load drive, which generate faster line rates and eliminate uncontrolled oscillation for better picture quality," said Oleg Steciw, marketing manager for National's amplifier product group.

Smaller TFT (Thin Film Transistor) The term typically refers to active matrix screens on laptop computers. Active matrix LCD provides a sharper screen display and broader viewing angle than does passive matrix. See LCD and thin film.

TFT - Thin Film transistor
panels require lower supply voltages (less than 12V) while larger desktop TFT-LCDs require higher supply voltage (around 20V). The LM8272's VIP3 process allows National to offer a supply voltage range of 2.5-24 volts, again offering the end-user a greater degree of design freedom.

The LM8272's 130mA of short circuit output current, required by larger TFT panels, and its rail-to-rail input and output, enable maximum dynamic range at any supply voltage. Additionally, the LM8272 provides a slew rate of 12V/uS and gain bandwidth of 15MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. . Other applications for the LM8272 include AD converters, high side/low side sensing and headphone amplifiers.

Pricing and Availability

The LM8272 is available now in the MSOP-8 package and priced at $1.30 in 1000-unit quantities.
