National Park Service names National Heritage Areas.


National Park Service Director Mary Bomar recently announced the establishment of l0 National Heritage Areas that span 15 states. The new sites join 27 existing National Heritage Areas throughout the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. .

"National Heritage Areas are wonderful examples of cooperative conservation," said Bomar. "These areas encourage citizens, government agencies, non-profit groups and private partners to work together to plan and implement strategies to recognize, preserve, and celebrate many of America's defining landscapes."

The recently named sites are:

* Arabia Mountain Arabia Mountain is a monadnock in DeKalb County, Georgia (). The peak is 940 feet (287m) above sea level, rising 180 feet (55m) above Arabia Lake reservoir.  National Heritage Area in Georgia

* Atchafalaya National Heritage Area in Louisiana

* Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership in New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 and Vermont

* Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area in New Jersey

* Freedom's Frontier National Heritage Area in Kansas and Missouri

* Great Basin National Heritage Route in Nevada and Utah

* Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina North Carolina, state in the SE United States. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean (E), South Carolina and Georgia (S), Tennessee (W), and Virginia (N). Facts and Figures
