SANFORD, Fla. -- This week, June 25-July 1, 2006, celebrates the tenth annual "National Mosquito Control Awareness Week" designated by the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA AMCA - 7-Amino-4-Methylcoumarin-3-acetic Acid

AMCA - Advanced Media Coverage Analysis
AMCA - Air Conditioning & Mechanical Contractors' Association of Australia
AMCA - Air Movement and Control Association International, Inc.
). ADAPCO, Inc., the world's largest distributor of mosquito control products and application equipment, applauds the AMCA's efforts to increase mosquito control public awareness through special programs offered during National Mosquito Control Awareness Week.

"ADAPCO recognizes the need to raise public awareness on mosquito control issues," said Bill German, Marketing and Business Development Manager of ADAPCO, Inc. "Mosquitoes are more than just annoying insects; they can pose serious health risks, transmitting West Nile Virus, Encephalitis, Malaria and other diseases."

ADAPCO offers the following tips for mosquito protection and prevention:

--Eliminate any stagnant water from your property. These are ideal breeding sites for mosquitoes.

--Keep vegetation trimmed to prevent mosquito resting sites during daytime hours.

--Purchase fish that feed on mosquito larvae for ponds on your property, such as Gambusia fish.

--Use mosquito repellents that contain DEET deet (det) diethyltoluamide..

--Avoid the outdoors after dusk; mosquitoes are most active from dusk until dawn. If outside after dark, wear long pants and a long shirt.

"If you are concerned about mosquito populations or mosquito-borne illnesses in your area, contact your local township or municipality to learn about the mosquito control programs in effect," German suggests.
