National Investment Center For the Seniors Housing & Care Industries Recognized for its objective, research-based resources and publications, and for having the premier networking conference for executive-level financiers and providers, the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industries--or NIC as it is also known--has become one of the most recognizable and well-respected names in the senior living industry. The new organization started with an annual conference, the first to bring the financial and provider sectors together in productive exchange. Almost since its beginning, approximately 1,000 senior living financiers, operators and owners/operators attend the annual conference. NIC used conference proceeds to fund original research on topics important to the seniors housing and care industry. These publications and resources include information related to investment, financing and development of product types along the retirement housing and long-term continuum. For example, the annual Lender and Equity Survey provides a thorough review of the financing preferences of lenders known to be active in the industry, as well as the valuation criteria and investment appetite of equity participants. In 1999, NIC focused on using new technology to bring even more timely information to seniors housing and care professionals through the introduction of its web-based Key Financial Indicators. Each quarter, financial and performance indicators are reported to NIC by the nation's leading lenders, owners/operators and appraisal professionals. Recognizing the industry's need to educate up-and-coming talent, NIC has collaborated with Johns HopKins University Johns Hopkins University, mainly at Baltimore, Md.
