National Instruments LabVIEW 8 Wins Control Engineering Editors' Choice Award; LabVIEW 8 Among Most Significant Innovations Featured in 2005.

AUSTIN, Texas -- National Instruments National Instruments, or NI (NASDAQ: NATI), is an American company with over 4,000 employees and direct operations in 41 countries founded in 1976 by Dr. James Truchard, Bill Nowlin and Jeff Kodosky.  (Nasdaq:NATI NATI National Association of Teen Institutes

) today announced that Control Engineering magazine awarded NI LabVIEW 8 an Editors' Choice Award, calling the graphical development platform one of the most significant innovations of 2005.

"We're happy to announce that National Instruments has been selected to receive a 2005 Control Engineering Editors' Choice Award for LabVIEW 8," said Mark T. Hoske, editor-in-chief of Control Engineering. "LabVIEW 8, the latest version of the NI graphical programming language, is an innovative product that meets a broad range of needs for test, control and design engineers."

Control Engineering selected this year's Editors' Choice Award winners from among all of the new products featured in the 2005 issues of Control Engineering, Control Engineering Online or one of Control Engineering's topical e-mail newsletters. Editors selected the winners based on three criteria -- service to the industry, technological advancement and market impact. As an Editors' Choice award winner, LabVIEW 8 is eligible to win one of eight Control Engineering Engineers' Choice awards in March.

National Instruments LabVIEW 8, the latest version of the graphical development platform for test, control and design, delivers distributed intelligence The placing of processing capability in terminals and other peripheral devices. Intelligent terminals handle screen layouts, data entry validation and other pre-processing steps. Intelligence placed into disk drives and other peripherals relieves the central computer from routine tasks.  -- a powerful suite of new capabilities for engineers and scientists -- to easily design, distribute and synchronize devices and systems. LabVIEW 8 also features the LabVIEW Project, a new system view for managing large application development. The LabVIEW Project integrates visual code differencing, improves source control integration with industry-standard third-party source control software and provides seamless deployment to mobile, industrial and embedded targets.

Additionally, LabVIEW 8 continues to build on Express technology with new tools for simplifying instrument control and data acquisition. With the new LabVIEW Instrument Driver Finder, engineers and scientists now can automatically recognize connected instruments and search, download and install the appropriate driver from the more than 4,000 available on the NI Instrument Driver Network.

"National Instruments has a long history of applying the feedback and creativity of our LabVIEW users to help guide our efforts and inspire breakthroughs such as LabVIEW 8," said John Pasquarette, NI director of software marketing. "This award is a testament to the impact the LabVIEW platform continues to make in expanding application areas."

About National Instruments

For 30 years, National Instruments (www.ni.com) has been a technology pioneer and leader in virtual instrumentation Virtual Instrumentation is the use of customizable software and modular measurement hardware to create user-defined measurement systems, called virtual instruments.  -- a revolutionary concept that has changed the way engineers and scientists in industry, government and academia approach measurement and automation. Leveraging PCs and commercial technologies, virtual instrumentation increases productivity and lowers costs for test, control and design applications through easy-to-integrate software, such as NI LabVIEW, and modular measurement and control hardware for PXI (PCI EXtensions for Instrumentation) A peripheral bus specialized for data acquisition and real time control systems. Introduced in 1997, PXI uses the CompactPCI 3U and 6U form factors and adds trigger lines, a local bus and other functions suited for measurement , PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.
