National Institute of Vegetable and Tea Science, Terada Production Jointly Develop Green Tea Caffeine Processing Device.

Tokyo, Japan, Apr 29, 2006 - (JCN) - The National Institute of Vegetable and Tea Science (NIVTS NIVTS National Institute of Vegetable and Tea Science (Mie, Japan) ), a research entity of the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO NARO National Association of Royalty Owners
NARO National Agriculture and Bio-oriented Research Organization (Tsukuba, Japan)
NARO Nuclear Accident Response Organisation
NARO National Agricultural Research Organisation of Uganda
), has developed the LCT160001, a device for lowering the caffeine content of green tea, in collaboration with a Shizuoka-based machinery manufacturer, Terada Production.

The LCT160001 processor washes tea leaves in hot water to remove caffeine by more than 60%. The new device can decaffeinate tea leaves without reducing the amount of catechin catechin /cat·e·chin/ (kat´e-kin) an astringent principle from the heartwood of Acacia catechu (catechu) and Uncaria gambier (gambir).  and amino acids.

This is one of the projects subsidized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries
  • Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (Japan)
  • Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (Cambodia)
 of Japan.
