The Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology National Institute of Standards and Technology, governmental agency within the U.S. Dept. of Commerce with the mission of "working with industry to develop and apply technology, measurements, and standards" in the national interest. announced that Amoco Chemical will receive $10 million funding as a part of the Advanced Technology Program to develop elastomeric homopolymer polypropylene (EHPP). The project will be a joint effort between Amoco Chemical, Stanford University Stanford University, at Stanford, Calif.; coeducational; chartered 1885, opened 1891 as Leland Stanford Junior Univ. (still the legal name). The original campus was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. David Starr Jordan was its first president. and Fiberweb North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. , and will focus on developing the catalyst, process and applications for the EHPP.
