SAVE YOUR ENVIRONMENT CONTEST WINNERS

Pollution may threaten the environment, but teens who entered the "Save Your Environment" contest during National Engineers Week (see SW 2/7/00) are ready to clean it up!

Using basic engineering principles, readers invented machines or developed a plan to solve Earth's major pollution problems. Entries were judged by representatives of the National Engineers Week, and for their ingenuity and creativity, 10 winning entries collected $100 each plus a one-year adj. 1. completing its life cycle within a year.

THE RULES

interview or research an engineer in your community. Type a one-page report (no longer than 500 words) that includes a description of the engineer and one engineering project. Explain how the project impacts your community. Also include your name, age, school, and school address and phone number. Then write and sign on each page; "I give the sponsors permission to use my entry for publicity purposes. Signed, (your name)."
