National Apartment Association: Regional Vice President directory 2006.

MEET YOUR REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENTS

During the 2006 January NAA Board of Directors meeting, the Board engaged in a lengthy discussion on how it might do a better job of promoting the strategic alliance on the local, state and national levels that represents the basis of the NAA family throughout the country.

The Board agreed that it must better inform members that when you join your local affiliated association, you automatically become a member of your state affiliated association and the National Apartment Association (NAA). This relationship strengthens the overall value of your membership at all levels and better promotes the important role that our members provide to the American public.

The association will publish this directory annually, and it will serve to identify our elected Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs); the local and state associations within each region; and how each of these components works to build the synergy which results from us all working toward a common goal.

Please use this directory to contact your elected RVPs or your local association, but most importantly to understand how we all benefit by belonging to an organization that supports its members and provides valuable services at the local, state and national levels.

Cordially,

Joe Sharp

Doug Culkin

The National Apartment Association is governed by its Board of Directors. The Board receives and evaluates reports of the Committees, Councils, Task Forces, the NM staff and the Executive Committee. It sets the policies and approves the important initiatives for NAA.

NAA is organized into 10 regional entities. Each state is allocated delegates based on its percentage of national dues NM received in the previous year. The delegates are chosen by the various states. The delegates within each region select Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs) to sit on NM's Board of Directors.

Each region elects one RVP. Each region may also elect one additional non-voting RVP who may act and vote at a NM Board meeting in the absence of the voting RVR Additionally, the delegates in regions paying the first and second highest percentage of national dues, as outlined in the Policies & Procedures, elect two additional RVPs. The regions paying the third, fourth and fifth highest percentages of national dues each elect one additional RVP. Each RVP must be either an owner, developer, builder, operator or manager of rental housing. The delegates in each region may meet periodically, but at least once prior to the annual meeting of the Assembly of Delegates to elect RVPs.

Each RVP shall serve a term of two years. Odd-numbered regions will elect their RVPs to serve a two-year term beginning in odd calendar years. Even-numbered regions will elect their RVPs to serve a two-year term beginning in even calendar years.

There are 27 RVPs who serve on the NM Board of Directors, 17 of whom are voting members. RVPs are the critical link between the local/state affiliated associations and the national association and they play a pivotal role in NM's continued success.

Approximately 81.5 million people, or one-third of the population of the United States, live in renter households annually generating more than $260 billion in rental revenues. The apartment industry employs more than 650,000 people. The current estimated value of U.S. rental housing stock is $2.5 trillion.

The National Apartment Association (NAA), based in Alexandria, Va, is the leading advocate for quality rental housing. NAA is a federation representing 192 state and local affiliated associations with more than 51,000 members responsible for more than 6.1 million apartment homes nationwide. It is the largest broad-based organization dedicated solely to rental housing. NAA members include apartment owners, management executives, developers, builders, investors, property managers, leasing consultants, maintenance personnel, suppliers and related business professionals throughout the United States and Canada.

NAA provides a wealth of information through advocacy, research, technology, education and strategic partnerships. NAA publishes UNITS magazine and other industry publications; holds an annual Education Conference & Exposition; and promotes industry professionalism.

The National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) is the education and research arm of the National Apartment Association. Its mission is to provide broad-based education, training, and recruitment programs that attract, nurture and retain high-quality professionals and develop tomorrow's apartment industry leaders; and to conduct research that benefits the apartment industry and its residents. The Education Institute offers six nationally recognized designation programs and actively promotes the apartment industry as a viable career choice.
