National 'Get Smart About Credit' day to be sponsored by ABAEF.Teens and young adults across America will learn the do's and don'ts of credit on the first annual Get Smart About Credit Day, sponsored by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation (ABAEF). The first Get Smart About Credit Day will be held on October 16, 2003. Volunteer bankers across the country will visit colleges, high schools, freshman orientations, youth groups and continuing education classes to teach students how to budget, use credit cards responsibly and build a positive payment history. Bankers will use lessons and activities from ABAEF's In Charge credit Education resource kit. The In Charge resource kit for Get Smart About Credit Day provides bankers a comprehensive selection of lessons and activities. The curriculum includes: a video with teens, college students and young adults discussing their credit experiences; handouts on credit rights and credit reports; exercises on budgeting, saving and credit use; quizzes; and a letter to send to schools and organizations to schedule presentations. Get Smart About Credit Day is sponsored by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation, a nonprofit committed to developing and providing education programs that lead to financial literacy. To order an In charge resource kit, bankers may contact the ABAEF at (800) BANKERS. Additional information is also available on the Consumer Connection at www.aba.com |
