The district court granted summary judgment in favor of the defendants and the appeals court affirmed af·firm v. af·firmed, af·firm·ing, af·firms v.tr. 1. The appeals court held that the prohibition on correspondence between inmates and former inmates did not violate the First Amendment, as applied to incoming mail and outgoing mail. The court noted that the regulation did not bar all forms of correspondence, leaving ample alternative means to communicate open to the inmates.
