UXBRIDGE Naomi Waxman Perlman, 88, passed away Thursday, August 30th in Uxbridge, Massachusetts Uxbridge, Massachusetts is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States.

Uxbridge was first officially settled by Europeans in 1662 and officially incorporated as a Town in 1727.

, brother of Rabbi Mordecai Waxman, Rabbi of Temple Israel in Great Neck, New York Great Neck is a village in Nassau County, New York, in the U.S., on the North Shore of Long Island. As of the United States 2000 Census, the village population was 9,538.

The Village of Great Neck is in the Town of North Hempstead.
 and pioneer in inter-faith relations (d. 2002) and wife of Dr. Mark Perlman, noted economist and professor at the University of Pittsburgh (d. 2006). She is survived by her daughter, Abigail (Harte) Williams, an attorney in Worcester, MA, and four grandchildren: David, Justin, Daniel, and Alexandra.

Naomi graduated from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor in Economics degree and began graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin. Naomi then moved to Washington, where she worked in economics, first at the Office of Price Administration and then at the Labor Board in Wages Adjustment. In these positions, she learned economics as a practical, rather than a theoretical, discipline.

In 1948, Naomi went to Columbia, where she met Mark. There began a partnership of love, loyalty and commitment that would last more than half a century. Naomi was one of the first women economists at the United Nations and originator of the scholarly classification system employed in economic research. She was Associate Editor of the Journal of Economic Literature from 1968 to 1984.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Activities Department of the Lydia Taft Nursing Home, Uxbridge, MA.
