* JAKE BALLING, CPA (Detroit Chapter), was named Accounting Director for the European Operations of DURA Automotive Systems Inc. in Dusseldorf, Germany. DURA is the world's largest independent designer and manufacturer of driver-control systems and other products for the automobile industry.

* BARRY EMERSON, CPA (Los Angeles Chapter), was hired as Senior Vice President, CFO and Treasurer of Big 5 Sporting Goods, a retailer of named brands and accessories based in EI Segundo, Calif.

* ROBERT R. FREEMAN (Silicon Valley Chapter) was named CFO and Chief Accounting Officer for Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Silicon Image Inc., a leader in the secure distribution presentation and storage of high-definition content.

* CARL KAMPEL, CPA (Baltimore Chapter), was appointed to the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Emerging Issues Task Force (EITF). Kampel is Director in Charge of Professional Standards at Ellin & Tucker Chartered in Baltimore. He also serves as President of FEI's Baltimore Chapter.

* SCOTT KANTOR, CPA (Connecticut/Westchester Chapter), was named CFO and Vice President Finance and Administration of Datascope Corp., a Montvale, N.J.-based provider of cardiovascular and patient monitoring products.

* ROSS LANDSBAUM, CPA (Los Angeles Chapter), was appointed Executive Vice President and CFO of Panavision, a Woodland Hills, Calif., camera manufacturer.

* THOMAS LIGUORI, CPA (Los Angeles Chapter), was named CFO and Senior Vice President of Hypercom Corp., a Phoenix-based electronic-transaction technology company.

* RICK LINDNER, CPA (San Antonio Chapter), the Senior Executive Vice President and CFO of SBC Communications Inc., will take over the CFO role when the acquisition with AT & T is completed. AT & T Inc. is the new name for the San Antonio-based company.

* PATRICIA A. MCKAY, CPA (San Francisco Bay Area Chapter), joined Office Depot in Delray Beach, Fla., as Executive Vice President and CFO.

* DAVID W. MILES, CPA (Louisville Chapter), was named CFO of Rescare, a human-services company in Louisville, Ky.

* MARK D. MOYER, CPA (District of Columbia Chapter), was named Senior Vice President and CFO of Ziff Davis Media Inc., a New York City-based technology media company.

* MARY JANE RAYMOND, CMA (New Jersey Chapter), joined Hudson Highland Group Inc. as CFO and Executive Vice President. Hudson Highland is a New York City-based business training and employment company.

* LOREN M. STARR (Atlanta Chapter) was named Senior Vice President and CFO of Amvescap Plc, a United Kingdom investment adviser that is based in Atlanta.

* ERIC G. WALTERS, CPA (Boston Chapter), was appointed to the Board of Directors of MFIC Corp., of Newton, Mass. Walters is Vice President and CFO of CardioTech International Inc.
