Nakina Systems Unveils Nakina Network OS(TM) 5; Advanced Multi-Vendor, Multi-Technology Management Platform Simplifies Element Management, Reduces Systems Integration Costs and Expedites New Service Roll-out for Service Providers.

OTTAWA, Ontario -- Nakina Systems Inc. ("Nakina"), a provider of multi-vendor security and element management solutions to network operators worldwide, today announced the launch of Nakina Network OS(TM) 5, the next version of the company's flagship product A primary product of a company, which is typically why the company was founded and/or what made it well known. For example, MS-DOS, Windows and the Microsoft Office suite have been flagship products of Microsoft. CorelDRAW is a flagship product of Corel Corporation. .

Nakina Network OS(TM) 5 is a scalable, carrier-grade network operating system An operating system that is designed for network use. Normally, it is a complete operating system with file, task and job management; however, with some earlier products, it was a separate component that ran under the OS; for example, LAN Server required OS/2, and LANtastic required DOS.  that serves as a powerful mediation layer and single point of integration between the network itself and higher-level network management / OSS Oss (ôs), city (1994 pop. 62,141), North Brabant prov., S Netherlands; chartered 1399. It is a significant industrial center. Manufactures include meat products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment, and metalware.  systems. Unlike current solutions in the market, its flexible architecture allows it to address multi-vendor networks consisting of both legacy and next generation technology, all on one system.

This release substantively expands the services offered to higher level Nakina Network Applications and third-party OSS applications like inventory management, service activation, fault management, and performance management. These new services include: (a) centralized cen·tral·ize

across any number of devices, ensuring consistency in the commissioning and configuration of networking equipment. The company has also ingrained its patent-pending Nakina Discovery(TM) into the Nakina Network OS(TM), making it available as a fundamental service to all Nakina and third party network applications.

"Service providers are under extreme pressure to roll-out their next generation infrastructure in support of services like IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) Also called "TV over IP," IPTV delivers scheduled TV programs and video-on-demand (VOD) via the IP protocol and digital streaming techniques used to watch video on the Internet.  and the quad-play.  has been weak element management systems which are often out-of-sync with vendors' new hardware releases. That's a major headache for service providers that the Nakina Network OS(TM) helps ease," explained Sergio Pellizzari, Chief Solutions Architect at Nakina and co-presenter, along with Sprint-Nextel, at the upcoming Billing & OSS World 2006 show in Miami on May 3, 2006.

, vice president of market development at Nakina, added: "Our work to date with Tier 1 carriers as our lead customers shows definitively that Nakina Network OS(TM) cuts down on system integration costs while simplifying the network operating environment In computing, an operating environment is the environment in which users run programs, whether in a command line interface, such as in MS-DOS or the Unix shell, or in a graphical user interface, such as in the Macintosh operating system.  with a common interface for all device management. Background Product Information:

The traditional method of deploying a proprietary, single-purpose element management system for each networking device in a service provider's network invariably in·var·i·a·ble

results in a hodge-podge of back office systems. The Nakina Network OS(TM) in contrast offers several benefits:

1. One network operating system to replace multiple, disparate EMS software platforms. Nakina eliminates the need for many proprietary single-vendor EMS's by introducing a powerful network operating system (the Nakina Network OS(TM)) to serve as a layer of abstraction See abstraction layer.  and single point of integration between OSS/BSS software and all the various network element types.

2. One set of powerful applications applying to all equipment. Nakina Network Applications represent most common features and functions found in EMS software (automated backup and restore capabilities, remote software upgrades, etc.). Each application can be used to manage any vendor's equipment, streamlining training requirements and providing network operators with a single common interface and set of procedures for managing elements across the entire network.

3. One powerful network discovery engine. Nakina Network OS(TM) includes the industry-leading Nakina Discovery(TM) engine that automatically scans and detects new network additions and changes helping service providers eliminate the 20 to 40 percent inaccuracies common in inventory databases today. This improves the performance of all NMS/OSS applications relying on accurate inventory data to perform functions such as service activation and inventory management.

4. One simple device driver per device-type to handle vendor-specific communications. The Nakina Network OS(TM) operates much like an operating system operating system (OS)

Software that controls the operation of a computer, directs the input and output of data, keeps track of files, and controls the processing of computer programs.
for your computer. It uses device drivers, or network adapters, to handle each vendor's device-specific communication protocol idiosyncrasies, allowing all applications residing on the Nakina Network OS(TM) to be created independently and to be applied equally to all network elements.

5. One simple solution for securing access. The Nakina Network OS(TM) and related Nakina security applications allow security administrators to easily enforce strong security policies in day-to-day operations across the network. Security administrators eliminate shared passwords (which are common today) while gaining the ability to precisely designate the applications, commands, and network elements that each user may access.

and introduce new services far more rapidly into their networks. They bolster security and eliminate headaches caused by shared passwords on their networks by using centralized security and password administration. They eliminate the chaos of "swivel chair management" by consolidating the management of any hardware vendor's networking equipment onto a single user interface, with common methods and procedures. They substantially improve productivity with the automation of everyday operations like software upgrades and equipment configuration. And it's all with one system. Only from Nakina.
