Nagase Confirms That Rosemary Extract Helps Activate Biological Defense System.

Tokyo, Japan, Sept 16, 2005 - (JCNN) - Nagase (TSE: 8012), a Japanese trading company that develops and manufactures chemical products, has confirmed a unique property of rosemary extract, in collaboration with Kyoto University Professor Emeritus Tetsuo Fujita's research group.

The partners have found that deterpenoid derived from rosemary extract activates the detoxification
1. reduction of the toxic properties of poisons.
2. treatment designed to free an addict from a drug habit.
3. in naturopathy, the elimination of toxic substances from the body, either by metabolic change or by excretion.

Further, in the mice experiments, they have discovered that an oral intake of rosemary extract helps activate the biological defense system in the brain.

While applying for a patent regarding the discovery, the partners aim to apply the result of the discovery to the treatment of neurodegenerative disease. Based on these findings, they have concluded that the intake of rosemary extract may inhibit the deterioration of the biological defense system, prevent diseases and make the signs of aging less apparent.

Details of the research will be presented at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pharmacognosy pharmacognosy /phar·ma·cog·no·sy/ (fahr?mah-kog´nah-se) the branch of pharmacology dealing with natural drugs and their constituents.
