NZNO support to Fijian nurses appreciated.NZNO NZNO New Zealand Nurses Organisation professional nursnig adviser Chris Millar Chris Millar (born 30 March 1983 in Glasgow) is a Scottish footballer. He is currently playing for Greenock Morton in the Scottish First Division. Millar plays in the centre of midfield for Greenock Morton. was in Fiji last month, assisting the Fijian Nursing Asssociation (FNA FNA Fine needle aspiration, see there ) develop its response to a review of the current Nurses, Midwives and Nurse Practitioners nurse practitioner n. Abbr. NP A registered nurse with special training for providing primary health care, including many tasks customarily performed by a physician. Act, 1999. Earlier this year, the Fijian Parliament approved a review of the Act, which first came into force in 1982 and was amended in 1999 to include nurse practitioners. Millar, accompanied by FNA general secretary Kuini Lutua, held three workshops with nurse managers in Suva, Lautoka and Labasa, each attended by up to 20 senior nurses. The workshops explored what the nurses wanted from a review of the Act and common themes emerged from the three workshops: scopes of practice to be clearly defined; changes to the structure and appointment of the regulatory authority Noun 1. regulatory authority - a governmental agency that regulates businesses in the public interest regulatory agency administrative body, administrative unit - a unit with administrative responsibilities ; changes to the requirements for registration of overseas nurses; competency COMPETENCY, evidence. The legal fitness or ability of a witness to be heard on the trial of a cause. This term is also applied to written or other evidence which may be legally given on such trial, as, depositions, letters, account-books, and the like. 2. issues; and the need for annual practising certificates. "It was a very worthwhile visit. I was able to provide support and leadership in the processes to take in responding to a review of the Act and how to present submissions. Small regional committees of nurses are now working on compiling com·pile tr.v. com·piled, com·pil·ing, com·piles 1. To gather into a single book. 2. To put together or compose from materials gathered from several sources: submissions to the Ministry of Health," she said. Millar also met Fiji's director of nursing, Rigieta Nadakuitavuki. "My visit was part of NZNO's commitment to South Pacific nurses and the Fijian nurses were very appreciative of our professional support." A draft of the new legislation is expected early next year and Millar says the FNA will need more support then, with workshops for more nurses. * Fijian nurses, along with other civil servants, have won their case for a cost of living adjustment (COLA), backdated to January 1, 2004. The increases range from $7 to $14 per week. Former NZNO organising service manager Laila Harrre gave evidence supporting the FNA's case for the COLA and Lutua last month thanked her for her role at the hearing held earlier this year. * |
