NYTimes.Com Relaunches Crosswords with Multi-Player and ''Beat the Clock'' Features.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 2003

NYTimes.com today announced three new features on its Premium Crosswords (www.nytimes.com/crosswords) that enable members to play collaboratively or competitively, solo or in groups. The new features, "Play Against the Clock," "Play With a Friend" and "Challenge Matches," are available to Premium Crosswords subscribers only, for an annual subscription fee of $34.95 or a monthly fee of $5.95.

Also new to Premium Crosswords is a Top Ten Puzzlers area that is continuously updated. There are three categories: the 10 puzzlers who most recently completed that day's crossword, the first 10 puzzlers to complete it that day, and the top 10 fastest puzzlers of the day. All members can compete for the Top Ten Rankings as soon as each new puzzle is published on NYTimes.com - on weekdays, the crossword posts at 10 p.m. E.S.T. the night before it appears in print, and on weekends it is available at 6 p.m. the prior evening.

The Play With a Friend feature enables a player to invite up to four other members, via instant message, e-mail or phone, to join an online game room devoted exclusively to their puzzle. In Challenge Matches, members can play an opponent or solve the puzzle by themselves. The Top Ten list and multi-player components are powered by PZZL.com, a company that designs and programs custom-made interactive puzzles puz·zle
