City (pop., 2000: 8,008,278), southeastern New York, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The largest city in the U.S.
 tax maps, assessment records, ownership information and property financial statements are now available on-line on the Real Estate Information Net-work (REINET) web site. Tax maps are priced at $2.50 each and can be viewed in Netscape (1) (Netscape Communications Corporation, Mountain View, CA, www.netscape.com) Part of America Online (AOL), Netscape specializes in Web software, including the Netscape Web browser.  4.0 or Microsoft Internet Explorer See Internet Explorer. . Map files may be imported into word processors and other programs.

Individual property records may be accessed for $1 each. Payment is made by opening an account with a minimum balance of $25 by credit card or by debit A monetary amount that is subtracted from an account balance. A debit from one account is a credit to another. See credit.  from your checking account. One can open an account on-line and access the data immediately. A password is sent to users by e-mail moments after one completes the on-line account information form. Detailed ownership information is available at $1 per parcel. Operating histories indicating income and expenses for one to five years are priced at $15 per property.

REINET hopes to replace expensive subscription services with a more dynamic, user-friendly user-friendly - Programmer-hostile. Generally used by hackers in a critical tone, to describe systems that hold the user's hand so obsessively that they make it painful for the more experienced and knowledgeable to get any work done.  and cost effective service on the web. If used effectively, this service should save financial institutions, media organizations, insurance and real estate professionals thousands of dollars per year.

What's next? REINET will go statewide with assessment data and sales data and then cross the river, publishing New Jersey sales and assessment data by year's end.
