It was created in 1969 by the New York State Legislature as a public benefit corporation (Chapter 1016 of the Laws 1969). awarded MKBEM Associates the contract to manage the construction and renovation of the Queens Hospital Center $400 million reconstruction project in Jamaica, Queens. MKBEM Associates, a joint venture of Morrison-Knudsen Corporation, W.J. Barney Corporation, Endeco Group Ltd., and Munoz Engineering, P.C., are proceeding with pre-construction of this multi-phased project. The first major portion of construction will start in mid 1992 with overall completion in 1998. Current plans included the major reconstruction of the existing Queens Hospital Center, a 551-bed acute care facility and construction of a new 305-bed long term care facility. The bed designations for the acute care hospital are: 218 medical/surgical, 18 medical intensive care, 8 surgical intensive care, 50 obstetric, 30 neonatal ICU ICU intensive care unit.
