NYARM seminar to be held Sept. 25.

NYARM, New York Association of Realty Managers- sponsored, on May 22 at the Hotel Pennsylvania, a conference, style seminar on Emergency Preparedness PART ONE. The above group of panelists addressed over 130 Residential Property Management Professionals on topics such as: How to create fire drill procedures. How to prepare your building for evacuations. When to evacuate versus when to not. Dealing with Special Needs Tenants during an emergency. What should be included in individual apartment emergency kits. Liability issues as it relates to the property manager. Choosing the right technology when upgrading emergency communication systems. The role of building service employees.

On Sept. 25, PART TWO of the Emergency Preparedness Series will take place at Tavern on The Green from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. resulting from the in depth Q&A during part one and participants will be updated by NYC OEM, Office of Emergency Management, FDNY and the NYPD on the latest advisories and what the city expects the role of the building manager to be during emergencies. There will also be an orientation for property managers as to the course content of a newly created training program for Building Service Workers.

Additionally, Michael Burton, senior vp of construction services, URS Corp. and former executive deputy commissioner of NYC, Dept. of Design &Construction, DDC, will share with the property managers his experiences as the coordinating agency during the cleanup of the World Trade Center Site and what learning can be imparted in how to fast track and coordinate overlapping construction immediately after and during emergency situations.
